Ankle and knee joint pain

    Hi people,

I've been out of sports for about 3 years now after I broke my arm in a GAA match. Since then, I've got lazy and never got back into it.

Now though, I've decided I want to go out and get fit again and have started following a running and weights regime. The weights are going ok so far but the running is really crippling me

I have been going on 25 mins jogs every evening for the last 2 weeks and the joints in my knees and ankles have really been bothering me. I run through the pain and strangely it goes away once I'm a few mins into my jog. Could this be happening because my muscles arn't used to the strenuous exercise they've been going through or could this be a something else?

As I said my muscles(calfs, hamstrings etc) are all fine, it's just the joints in my ankles and knees causing the trouble.

From others experiences here, will this pain eventually go away as a get fitter or should I stop running for a while to see if it mends itself? I really want to keep this regime up as I'm already seeing some weight loss but if I'm doing myself serious harm I know I'll have to stop, at least for a while

    Any input would be appreciated

Have you just started running again? Have you done much exercise since you last ran consistently? Have you gained weight since the last time you've run?

Yes I'm only back running/jogging the last two weeks since I've started this new regime

For the 3 years I've been away from sport/excercising the only bit of physical activity I've done has been an astro game of soceer every 3 weeks or so, nothing major at all

Weight wise, I've put on about a stone since I've given up the GAA. I'm 6ft on the button and weigh 13st 5lbs. I'm not a stocky lad, my ideal weight would be 12stone 3lbs ish

Could it be the shoes? I remember watching this program "How old will you get/How long will y live" or whatever it was called, and the guy on that one show I watched started running and was loving it but got really bad pains and it turned out he was using the wrong type of runners and that he needed orthotics. And then it was all perfect.

Go and see a trained medical professional - you risk making things much worse following "random" advice off the internet - which could be excellent or terrible...

Maybe your form is poor. Do you lean forward when you run? You can put more strain on your knees that way I think.
