I don't see any thread on above so I thought we should get one going. A few exciting games in Leinster tomorrow. The two Leinster finalists from last year may be gone at the first hurdle with tricky ties they face. I'll personally be hoping Westmeath get off to a good start but we are missing Heslin so I don't see us getting over Laois in Portlaoise even though half of the team have senior inter county experience.

Jesus Laois got stuffed! Great to see Carlow chalk up a win. They could have went far last year but were given a raw deal. :)

Anyone going to the games on Wednesday night? I'd love to make it to Athlone for Westmeath v Offaly but unfortunately I don't have a lift from Dublin!

Yeah I'm heading down to Wexford for the Kildare V Wexford game. Kildare have a decent line out, but the team is very young.

    Westmeath 0-12 ... 0-06 Offaly.

Combination of Westmeath being good and Offaly being poor

Amazing the Leinster champions will come from one of them 4. Traditional strong football counties like Dublin, Meath and Offaly gone. Laois who had decent minor team from the same crop gone also.

The u21 is very very different from the senior but well done to them counties. it shows they are putting huge effort in to their underage levels.

If ever a case was made to get rid of the qualifiers at senior level, just look at the U21 championship, always loads of upsets, and this years Leinster championship is no different.

Roscommon 11 Mayo 9 in Castlebar today.

Only the first round but a we are on the way:)

great win by roscommon, to go to mchale and beat a team backboned by those two mayo teams that made the minor final in 2008 and 2009 and a bunch of senior mayo players thrown in for good measure is some doing and this without the captain and leader of the team

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,722 ✭✭✭nice_guy80

Is this Ros team better than last year's??

they were very open and loose and frankly dissappointing against dublin in the semi final

hard to know, last years team were alot better than they showed in that dublin match, they were caught cold with two dublin goals in the first two minutes and after that it was mountain to climb

probably not as dependant on one guy for scores as last year though in saying that they dont have anyone of donal shines class either up forward, they were already beaten couple of times this year by cavan in the hastings cup so i would be surprised if they went further than last year but you live in hope

Quite possibly the most signifcant single result of the year for us, nearly regardless of what happens at senior level.

We've had some very good underage teams coming through over the last half a decade and for our under-21's to go to McHale Park and dispense with one of the most loaded Mayo under-21 teams in living memory is very encouraging, especially given almost all of these players were not a part of the 2006 minor All-Ireland win. If players comes through underage expecting to be able to compete with and regularly beating Mayo and Galway the 'give it a go' menality will become a relic of the past.

agree with the above - carlow or westmeath with the best chance of changing things I would say.

do Longford not have quite a handy team this year? didnt they have a minor team who won Leinster there a year or 2 ago? id expect them to beat Westmeath. hard to see Wexford losing to Carlow too

i'd go for the opposite result in both matches, wmeath and longford will be close but carlow should easily account for wexford. this is a serious carlow outfit

ah but sure didnt Wexford beat a handy Kildare team in the last round?
feel Longford will beat Westmeath, 2010 minor Leinster champions !

that longford minor team is next years u21 team, so it doesnt really translate just yet. i dont know how good kildare were supposed to be, but i know a few lads from carlow and they reckon this team has an excellent shot at winning the leinster. they've also beaten wexford 3 times this year already. championship is a different ball game though, anything can happen

    Cork 0-21 V 2-03 Tip
    Limerock 2-06 V 3-15 Kerry

    Wexford 1-10 V 0-09 Carlow
    Longford 0-10 V 0-09 Westmeath

    Tyrone 0-14 V 1-11 Down (AET)

    Cavan 0-13 V 1-04 Donegal

Cork and kerry had their expected easy victories.
Bit surprised Cavan beat Donegal by that scoreline and Carlow and especially Westmeath came as close as was predicted.

Down did well to force ET and then score the last 3 point in ET to force a replay!

the carlow game wasnt anyway at all close. Carlow went 5-1 up and Wexford scored 1-8 unanswered then. they scored 2 points from play in the game, and all but one point scored by a midfielder. couple of soft frees at the end brought the scoreline back a bit.

When is the Down Tyrone second replay?

So carlow went 4pts up, then were 7 points down and in the remainder of the game they outscored wexford 4 points to 1 - Totally onesided game so:rolleyes:

 sorry, should have realised that the scoreline tells more about a game than actually seeing it.

I didn't see it. In general play it mightn't have been but...
You said it wasn't in any way a close game!!
It ended with 4 pts between them - 11 scores to 9- hardly one sided;)
