Losing the gut

I am coming into my eight month of doing stronglifts (3 days) and while I have made great gains Ive also put on a sizeable gut which I need to get rid of. Ive altered my diet since the turn of the year which looks something like this

8am - bowl of jumbo oats (20g), flaxseed, strawberries and protien shake

11am - tuna sambo wholemeal bread with light mayo and protien shake

1pm - salad with olive oil or handful of peanuts (cashews) and protien shake

4pm - three oatcakes with natural peanut butter

7/8pm - dinner usually meat with veg and protien shake

Ive lost a bit of weight since January but I have eight weeks until we go on holiday and really want most of the fat gone by then.

I dont eat any rubbish at all my only little treat is maybe 6-8 cans of beer on a saturday night.

I was thinking of adding in cardio on my rest days as i cant add that on after the weights session due to kids going to bed:rolleyes:

How does this look? is there anything I can change to lose the belly a bit quicker?

I find that cutting out beer completely helps get rid of the gut. Beer is a killer when it comes to trying to lose a gut.

Yeah maybe drop some of your carb intake as well - bread, oatcakes if you want be really particular? Your diet is much better then mine, wish I had the willpower to cut down on the beer....

I really enjoy those few cans though, and TBH its not a lot. Was thinking about the bread though..any ideas on replacing that or the oatcakes???

Portion control buddy. If you're lifting mark your caloric intake at around 2500 calories.

bowl of jumbo oats (20g) ?
Did u weigh this. 20g's would be only a few flakes which is what u could be doing not sure.

Just i weighted a bowl of normal oats to find that one of my bowl's when almost full is 200g of oats.

    @wingnut
    • What's with all the protein shakes
    • Do you know what your daily maintenance calorie figure is?
    • Is your current daily food intake giving you a daily calorie deficit?
    • If yes, by how much?
    • Which is more important to you, your 6-8 cans on a Saturday night or losing the gut for you upcoming holidays?
    • The cans are probably providing half of your daily calorie requirements for Saturday  Are you allowing for this in your food calories?
Throw in one or two HIIT sessions (and I mean balls to the wall) along with a daily calorie deficit and continue your lifting and you should drop some of the fat. Have a look at The Metcon Thread for some ideas for fat burning workouts.

^Seriously. If I recall correctly, you need only ~3oz of protein each day. The protein shakes might be the causative factor for your weight gain. Excess protein is turned into fat if unused.
