What kind of ''diets'' do you go on?

It's a fairly common thing to happen to people who go on unrealistic diets. Especially high carb, low fat... it plays havoc with your blood sugar levels and leads to extreme cravings.

Post up examples of what you would try to eat to lose weight.

ok so for the previous two weeks before "the binge" i cut out all carbs, so i was basically eating veg, lots of protien, 0% fat youghart, i have to admit though that on a sat evening ill have a few beers and maybe a pizza, but then i kinda starve myself for the next day, so i guess my eating is very messed up:rolleyes:

    Whats "unrealistic" about High-Carb Low-Fat?

You're basically yo-yoing with your diet. Starving yourself one minute and then binging the next. The body is crying out for calories. You need to make sure you are eating enough calories each day or this will continue.

You're supposed to treat yourself now and again.
I eat healthily all week, high protein-low carb diet. Then on Fridays or Saturdays I'll have a huge pizza and a bottle of coke. I find it gives me something to look forward to and makes ya less likely to eat crap regularly. I eat regularly the next day too, I'd never let myself go hungry. Lose about 2lbs a week eating like this and have been happily doing this for a good few months now.

I hear ya Sanderelle, I'm pretty much in the same boat. I'll be good for a week or two and then the dam bursts and I'll eat all around me. When I'm dieting, I try and eat a mixture of foods but I completely cut out all fried foods and sugery foods. I start to crave them after a while. My lifestyle gives me lots of excuses to cut corners and just eat whatever is handy rather than wait until I can cook something decent.

I'd have to disagree with this statement tbh :o

While I don't disagree that if you eat clean all week you can indulge a little now and again, but "a huge pizza and a bottle of coke" could undo all the good you did creating a deficit through the week.

Also I believe that eating what I would consider "Junk Food" on a regular or semi regular basis, just keeps your body used to the taste of this type of food.

There is no reason why eating clean should seem like a chore, something that has to be endured. There is a huge range of healthy & nutritious foods available which are really tasty. There is more to clean eating then steamed Chicken and brocolli ;)

I don't agree with people who eat more junk food as opposed to healthy but if eating a pizza and a coke on friday makes you feel happy and encourages you during the week then I'd say go for it! We've only one life and if you're healthy the rest of the time I think you'll be fine.

With regard to the binge eating-story of my life! I find when I'm eating too few calories esp so maybe you just need to make smarter decisions about what you're eating, more filling foods and ones that taste good so you'll want to eat them!!

I don't think so actually. A big pizza with lots of stuff on it would have between 2-3 thousand calories, prob wouldn't manage to eat it all either. Coke will have a few hundred. I'd prob only have one other meal that day so the calorie excess isn't much considering my calorie requirements.

Also, I'm not on any serious diet, just gradual loss while working hard at the gym so it works perfectly for me. Everybody just has to find what works for them.

    Agree with this.

I like to think of my body as a car run on petrol.

    Good food = petrol
    Bad food = diesel

Why the feck would I want to treat my car to diesel. No need at all.

People spend so much of their time being healthy they forget to enjoy themselves! Not everyone likes and wants the same things and what works for one person mightn't for the next. I def agree with the pizza once a week if that's what the person wants

And again with propagating the idea that eating healthily is a chore, something to be endured and that you can't enjoy yourself if you eat healthily all the time. IMHO that's just rubbish. It is 100% possible to have deliciously tasty, nutritious meals that are classed as healthy or "Clean"and have an full, enjoyable life at the same time. Eating nutritious, healthy food and enjoying life are not mutually exclusive!!

I totally agree that a little of what you fancy won't do you any harm. My point was just that what you decide to treat yourself to does not have to be the kind of foods that you spend your week avoiding. And that it is possible to undo most if not all the deficit you created through the week with a blow out meal at the weekend.

I just personally feel that by keeping pizza's, burgers, chips, fizzy drinks etc in your diet, even if it's only once a week, keeps your body used to this type of foods, which would be classed a junk food.

OP - just a thought, but have you looked at why you are reaching for the junk food? Are you tired when you do? Pi$$ed off when you do? Are their any particular situations that lead you to eating bad?

Also, when you are eating 'clean' are you snacking enough? Never let yourself get to the point 'hunger' - there is no need. Have healthy snacks to hand and dont be afraid to eat them.

Finally, if you fall off the wagon, dont beat yourself up about it. We ALL do it now and then. Just get back on the wagon asap - none of this 'I'll start again on Monday' excuse. Just start again NOW. :)
It takes time to get your body used to a new habit, quitting junk food can be like quitting smoking...it takes time and effort and will power.

Pizza + coke probably 1500 calories. Normal clean meal maybe 600 calories. So really its just an excess of 900 calories.

So once a week averages at 130 calories a day. If you're running a deficit of 500 calories a day this won't make much difference, certainly not near cancelling your deficit. If it keeps you sane so be it.
