The last TV debate between the main party leaders is on tonight. At this stage I doubt provided that no one makes any major blunders that it will make much difference as regarding peoples decisions as who to vote for.Does anyone agree with me?

Too many TV debates has me sick of the whole thing really. This final debate will not make a bit of a difference. People will mainly vote for the same people they voted for last time around regardless of the leaders. Those who change and were once FF will vote FG because they can't see past civil war politics even though they havn't a clue of what the policies are. Personally I feel that FG will put the country into further poverty, taxing the poor feeding the rich. Privatising the HSE is just the start of the destruction of Ireland.

I don't think there's anything to be said that hasn't been mentioned already.

Those on under 25k pay fuk all tax in this country. Personally if I were one of the rich people that pay most of our tax I'd be wondering why the tax burden wasn't being shared a bit more. And where did they say they'd privatise the HSE? I read their manifesto and I didn't see that.

The entire health system will be reliant on a private compulsory health insurance that will be in place to make profits not to serve the people a basic human right. These private companies will have a major role in how the hospital is funded etc. The rich people in this country should be taxed more or at least pay staff more, after all the reason they are so rich is down to the employees that serve them. Why should some people in Ireland live an extragant lifestyle whilst others are struggling to survive. Are these the overconsumers that you wish to protect meglome.

People on less then 25k are already struggling, why punish them more.

There's apparently going to be a poll published tonight in time for the debate.

If I were either of the leaders, I wouldn't want to know the outcome of the poll, it might put them off!

I know Miriam has moderated TV debates before, but I've not seen them. I found it incredibly irritating the last time that Pat Kenny kept on interrupting. I understood the need to keep statements to a minimum when time was tight, but I spent most of the debate gritting my teeth because I couldn't actually hear what the candidate was trying to say over the sound of his voice. Is Miriam generally like this, does she let debaters have their head or is she pretty firm?

I tihnk it is good as I have heard FG have a 5 point plan we might get to hear about it.

IMO the last time with chancer Ahern and Kenny she was not impartial. She appeared to favour Ahern.

I would love to know. Personally I have never met or heard of anyone being asked to participate. If I hear Enda banging on about the 5 point plan anymore I will have to turn the debate off.

It seems Fine Gael threw the last of their campaign money into a fancy 2 minute ad on RTÉ just before the last debate -- nice one!

I thought the galtee rasher ad was better!

    Ahem, when?

    Good opening statement by Enda.

Enda a bit wooden. Gilmore sounding a bit, um, deflated/weak/hoarse compared to his usual fiery self.

No it's a secondary one. Do you feel dirty now?

Enda Kenny actually reminded me of George W Bush there.

Yeah, what's the name of his party? The candidates down my way don't mention that on their posters.

Questions are crap. Are you being honest? Um, they are hardly going to say no. Lots of room to waffle.

i am going to count how many times enda says 5 point plan.

Plainly moronic questions so far, all we've heard is speech-giving, let's hear some, you know, debating.

If RTE has pussied out to Fine Gael yet again I'll explode.

The slow rate of posting on here really make me think that there is another thread on here about this programme. Or else the debate is so lifeless no one gives a dam.

Gilmore caught out on his spoofing straight away by MM

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭baldbear

I liked the way Enda moved that pen, like Harry Potter using a wand!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 311 ✭✭lempsipmax

I still find it absolutely astounding that neither Gilmore or Kenny can bury Martin, considering the mess the country is in and that he has been in power for 14 years!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 740 ✭✭✭Sibylla

'Honest, credible and realistic' is how Martin describes his plan, very hard to swallow.

The debate is online now live :)
