    Hi All,

I've decided I want to give hillwalking a go. I'm fit-ish. I don't want to join a club but some of my friends are on for trying it together. Noone is very experienced. Have people any suggestions for nice easy routes we could try. We're based in Munster, mainly Cork but don't mind too much driving. Also is there any gear that's must-have aside from decent boots/shoes.

    Thanks,
    Kaz

While you may well get useful replies to your question here, this forum is really more based towards what would be considered as physical training methods.

You may get some more specific responses over in the Outdoor Pursuits forum.

There is very little in the way of really difficult walks in Ireland.
Bar The Macgillicuddy reeks and mt Brandon in Kerry or Lugnaquilla most mountains are easy enough.

    Reckon TommyKnocker is right though.

    Also: http://www.walkireland.ie/

Good source for walks and Waymarked Trails in Ireland.

Torc Mountain is a good one to do. Clear path going up, so navigation is not a problem. Not too high or severe, and a beautiful view over the lakes on a clear day.
