How clothing hasn't changed!

Clothing hasn't really changed since the 80's, we have gone back to that era of style where your wearing no lense thick glasses, shaved sideburns with long fringe, leather jacket over old addidas bright blue zip up, sister's skinny jeans and converse... kids nowadays think this look is new and hip (hipsters) but this style has been done before, at least in the 90's we changed it up a bit with the age of nintendo and sega when it was cool to wear a sonic the hedgehog t-shirt and three quarter length shorts, wearing shorts was what the 90's was all about and watching Art Attack and wearing Ren and Stimpy pajamas!

Kids nowadays don't realise they are living in a revised era, its been done before Bjorn formerly known as Kevin, just because you use a Mac now to retouch your photography and you write your thoughts on a blog instead of a diary and playing synth in a band has been around a lot longer than you think Kevin!

I was sitting around temple bar the other week and the amount of lads walking around like they're fresh off a Flock of Seagulls music video is ridiculous! Have they ever seen a sci-fi film from the 80's, we're suppose to be wearing silver metallic outfits with tall styled hair and jackets with lcd monitors on them with little bleepy red and green lights going off! Instead we're going backwards! Did I watch Blade Runner for nothing! Marty McFly would be falling off his hover skateboard right now!

It was never cool to wear sonic hedgehog t-shirts & three quarter length shorts.

Unless you think that looking like Kev & Perry is cool.

I distinctly remember it being 'cool' to wear flares/bellbottoms and platform shoes when I was in school in Canada in the late 90's.

That said, I'm not sure if that's because the 90's weren't as original as they thought, or that Canada was still stuck in the late 70's when the rest of the world was in the 90's. :o

Anyway, this decade in fashion seems to be all about revival. 80's isn't the only thing coming back, there's Steampunk (albeit, that's very rare), 20's and 50's looks influenced by shows like Boardwalk/Mad Men, etc.

I think every decade just kind of borrows from twenty years before and adds on.

I liked the various clothes from each decade but I must say some of those from the 80's and 90's I'd be afraid to wear now. The other decades weren't half bad between the 60's and 70's style was good but the colours and design not mad on from those decades. Prefered the make up from those decades though than the ones in the 80's and 90's.

Skinny jeans for men is a no no no for women its fine they can carry it off.

It has changed you just haven't noticed it. The 90's had a bit of a 70's revival with flares and platforms, but the fashion was still distinctly 90's, as now the 80's revival which is waning has a lot of its own distinctiveness. I think the 00's will be remembered for those horrible jeans that are faded around the knee areas.
And the stillettos that some women wear have reached ridiculous levels.

I agree with what the OP saids. Fasion is somewhat a revised history. I mean in the 1960's leggings became a pit of a fasion trend, at least in America anyway. Then it sort of died down in the 70's but made a return in the 80's and early 90's. Then they went out of fasion again between the late 90's and early 00's but are back in fashion now. Also bell bottom jeans were fasionable around the 70's, but sort of got replaced by skinny jeans in the 80's and early 90's before making a return in the mid 90's and continue to be used, skinny jeans made a come back in the last 5 or so years as well. So it seems to be that fashion tends to repeat itself. Who knows maybe it might the time for parachute pants to come into fashion:D

OP, your parents' generation were saying the very same kinda stuff about your generation when you were a kid. In the 80s there was an obsession with the 50s/60s - possibly as a result of the Levi ads, films like Stand By Me, La Bamba and Dirty Dancing, loads of 60s songs were re-released, there was (it pains me to revisit the memories)... Jive Bunny... (sorry :().

There is rarely an original idea in fashion, or in any real art form to be honest. Everyone is inspired by something, everyone is influenced by something else. It's human nature. It's a continuous cycle, what was once hip and is now considered "dated," will be reinvented and will be hip again and so forth.

Every single fashion trend that has ever existed has been remodeled/remarketed to suit the waiting masses.

I bought a massive knit cardigan the other day. My mother took immense pleasure telling me it was hugely similar to something SHE wore when she was 19. No doubt I'll be telling my daughter the same thing.

Happens to everything: Music, fashion, tv, cinema. Remake, Reuse, recycle, take inspiration from. Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

If you want to get annoyed about something in fashion, why don't you get annoyed at the scores of people who think they're being "ironic" and "non-conformist" by dressing the exact same way as their peers?

Oh you're a goth? You're a hipster? You're rebelling against social norms by dressing the EXACT same way as your mates? Gargh,

I've nothing against dressing "different," but at least have the balls to admit that you're not doing anything original.

    Sigh.

Yeah it could be argued that that has been said by every generation too, but I personally think it's never been so applicable as today. Has there ever been anything as bad as Justin Bieber and ****ing Jedward?!

At least when oldies were whingeing about The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin it was only because they didn't recognise a good thing when they heard it...

But it's only because we have to live through the hype. Bieber and Jedward aren't what's going to be remembered. They're current, popular and thus, fleeting. To be fair, "popular" and "mainstream" music is never REALLY the epicentre of creative output in any generation.

Can you imagine what all those hepcool jazz-cats thought of this:
