Can somebody please tell me when this event opens for entries or if indeed it is happening this year. It sold 700 entries in 2 hours last year and I wasn't one of them. But I hope to be this year!!! All assistance appreciated. :D

    1. It is happening.

    2. Not sure when the release date will be, but it will be announced simultaneously on all Galway AC club's websites.

Keep an eye on them and you'll be sorted.

That was hard work. Took last 22 mins and then when I got to the final payment screen I got this message:

Your transaction has been successful but there was a problem connecting back to the merchant's web site. Please contact the merchant and advise them that you received this error message. Thank you.

Not sure whether I'm registered or not now.

    Folks,
I'm the co-ordinator for the organising clubs on this series and I understand that it's a difficult process entering this series, but we couldn't think of a fairer way, despite spending a long time trying to think of one. The site is extremely slow but I'm told that the web-server is up and processing entries. Hang in there.

If anyone has issues that I should investigate they can get me at mick@athenry.com or by private message here.

    Cheers,

    Mick.

Thanks Alan, got that message as well. Do we need to contact anyone about his or will our entries be picked up automatically?

My visa card is still processing for the last 45mins, but I did get an e-mail to say thank you for your order so I presume I'm in :)

    Got this message:

I didn't receive a confirmation mail, but I e-mailed the co-ordinator to find out what the story is. I won't be a happy camper if my entry hasn't gone through!

The €30 has come out of my account but I never got an email to say I'm registered after that message.

That runireland website is a joke if it can't cope with that amount of traffic. Surely there were no more that a few hundred people logging on. If their servers can't cope with that then race organisers should demand that they're updated or go elsewhere to sell their races.

In the same boat here, money has come out of my account but no confirmation email - let us know what race co-ordinator feedback is, was really looking forward to this

We don't know if we're already registered or not. I've been charged but haven't got a confirmation email. I sent you an email Mick. Any way you can check - don't want to pay twice but don't want to miss out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭BrokenMan

Anyone wondering if they are registered can check on the Entrant Search option. On the page where you register there is a tab.

I got the same message as some have mentioned and my name wasnt there but it is now. Reckon that they have gone through all of the payments on their Realex account.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 467 ✭✭Mick Rice

I'm a little removed from the heart of the action as well, but what I'm told is that although the web server hosting the entry system held up reasonably well in the circumstances, there was some disconnect at the backend between the actual entry details and the payment details that go through Realex.

I also understand that if you got as far as paying for the entry that you're on solid ground - in other words you're entry should be secure. We realise that this system is not perfect by any means but hope that people understand that it's difficult to devise any completely trouble free solution to allocating these series places.

If anyone feels that there's an issue we should look at, please get in touch with me and we'll do all we can to sort it out.

    That's exactly what happened.
Apologies to anyone inconvinienced by the errors on the site.
IF somehow, your transaction was processed twice, then contact info@runireland.com and it will be sorted out.

Managed to enter this this morning after a few failed attempts yesterday evening. Looking forward to doing hopefully 3 of these races

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 AndyC80

You can confirm entry by clicking on the "entrants search" tab on the Run Ireland website. Go to race entry for the Galway 5k series and click on "enter now", you should now be able to click on the search tab.

It was a frustrating hour and a half, but im looking forward to another very well organised series..bring it on!!

i think the tues evening 5km chip timed and measured courses around the county is a great format and im not surprised its so popular.

just a bit of fun , but would anyone like to try and list this years races in order of difficulty / pb potential or otherwise. i wont hold ye to it like:)

Purely personal opinion but imo easiest to hardest are. im sure others will have different opinions

    Tuam
    Galway
    Craughwell
    Athenry
    Claregalway
    Loughrea

I'm not doing it this year but my list from easiest to hardest last year would be

    Tuam
    Athenry
    Claregalway
    Galway
    Loughrea.

I didn't do the Craughwell one. I've put Galway 2nd last, it shouldn't have been as hard as it felt so it was probably more a case of me being knackered by the end of the series. Loughrea was the hardest but was also the friendliest to make up for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,830 ✭✭✭catweazle

I agree Littlebug, I didn't do Loughrea but all the twist and turns in Galway didnt suit me at all, even though it was my worst time of the series it was my highest placing.

    Of ones I did

Craughwell (Flat enough from what I can remember)
Athenry (First is always hard, even though it was flat)
Claregalway (Tough course but last k is all downhill)
    Galway (as above)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭pgibbo

I ran all 6 last year. My fastest race of the series came in Craughwell. I think Loughrea is definitely the toughest. The surface coupled with the twists and turns makes Galway a tough one to get a good time in but the course isn't tough. My order for pb potential is:

    Craughwell
    Tuam
    Athenry
    Galway
    Claregalway
    Loughrea

Signed up for this with the missus, haven't actually ran any proper road races yet so the first one will be a PB :D and we'll have to see how they go after that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 561 ✭✭✭Foxx92

A week to go...can't wait for the races. Tried to enter last year and missed out. Thought I missed out again this year but got it eventually. Never ran 5k on road before so really looking forward to it.
Also wondering if anyone heading out from the city to the races could give a lift. Tis hard getting to all places around the county with no car...

Not sure if there will be any email.
First race is next Tuesday at 7:45 in Athenry (Newcastle). Pick up your number and timing tag before in the community centre in Newcastle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 467 ✭✭Mick Rice

We don't send out an email. You can check the list of entrants on www.RunIreland.com.

I don't see a 'Steamer' in there, but you may have entered under a pseudonym :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Steamer

What time should I arrive to collect number? No Mick this is just my username :) I am on the entrant search alright so hopefully there is only one me! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 467 ✭✭Mick Rice

Be there nice and early the first night and car-pool if you can. Half the craic with the series is the chat before and after. I'd suggest being parked up and rady to run by about 07:00pm on the first night. On other nights all you have to do is show up and run. Maximise the chat, minimise the running, and get the best value.

Full organisational details on the Athenry site by tonight hopefully.

There were K markers last year, although I think 1 or 2 of them may have been a bit off last year, although the route itself was spot on.

I will be using garmin as well as checking the markers ;)

From what I remember, there is a drag on the 2nd K that goes on for waht seemed like about 1k

Re the wind, there should be pleanty of people to duck in behind :D

I hope I'm able to run this tonight, I'm extremely unfit and my injury isn't fully sorted. All I can do is try and not get too disheartened if I'm way back the field.

missin this after i badly twisted ankle last wkend. hope to be back for the some of the races. the barca madrid match tonight is small consolation!
