Starting off weight training

    Hi all,

I'm currently too broke to pay for gym membership but have started running twice or three times a week. From reading posts on here, I realise that I should be doing some weights with cardio to really notice a difference. I'm just wondering if there's any simple program I could be doing at home to get started maybe on the days I'm not running. I've looked up erx but am just completely lost as to where a complete beginner with weights should begin! I downloaded an app called Nike Training Club and this has 30-45 minute workouts on toning and strength, would this be a good place to start? Or what about a pay as you go class? Would something like yoga or pilates be a better accompaniment to the running?

Thanks for any advice, sorry if this is a clueless post!

The operation transformation site has loads of routines for beginners using water bottles as weights (not much cheaper than that!)

After 8 weeks if your still going strong then you can get some dumbells and look up a different full body routine on da wonder web or a 2 day split if it's something you find is giving you good results (which I am sure it will.)

Start slow and take your time. good technique and 'form' are important to get good results.

If you can't afford gym membership just use your bodyweight. Pushups, pullups, situps, squats, dips... All can be done at home, just watch rocky 4 for inspiration :P

As above, start with bodyweight exercises, then you can progress onto a few complimentary tools, bands/kettlebells etc. There's a lot you can do with just bodyweight to start though, is that what the nike app does?

do all of this as most requires little or no equipment. I have watched some of the operation transformation videos and am fairly unimpressed. This will give you a more balanced approach -

    All the best
