Bet of the Festival

Cheltenham is so close I can feel it.
Deciding today on my bet of the festival.
Call me unoriginal but Cue Card is strongly looking like he's going to be a big bet for me. Sizing Europe had he gone for the Ryanair would have been as well.
Who would ye say is the bet of the festival

Big Bucks price is ridiculous. On price alone he has to be the bet of the festival for me.

Albertas Run ew. Easily the best horse in the race last and he's available at 12s. I had faith that he'd come good last year on good ground and keep that faith this year.

Jonjo is in awful form right now though and thats the biggest worry.

I was nearly thinking of doubling up with Cue Card Richie.

I've posted on a few sites now that Cue Card is one of my bankers.

More form than Cousin Vinny and Dunguib, the last 2 favorites and a bigger price.

I cant see anything beating Time For Rupert in the RSA.

The value is gone now unfortunately.

    So much is ground dependant.

If it pisses rain Wednesday morning Master Minded would be my bet of the meeting.

Cue Card and Time For Rupert look strong but there will be massive improvers in both races and a lot of things can go wrong on the day.

If Quevega is anywhere near her current 5/4 i'll steam in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

Peddlers Cross at 5-1 seems great value.

Not convinced by Time for Rupert so would avoid him.

Do you just say random things.

    That's a ****in ridiculous statement.

At least give us a reason

Just not convinced by any of those at the head of the betting for the RSA. Time for Rupert reminds me so much of Punchestowns last year. He is very solid and a worthy favourite just reckon he will find a couple too good.

If i knew which couple i'd name them!!

Big Bucks 11/10 on VC, I'm getting stuck in! Still odds on most places and evens in a couple.

Think it has to be Quevega for me. Top class mare and seems to thrive arriving to Cheltenham fresh.

Imperial Commander looks primed too. Really looking forward to seeing how Kauto and Denman go aswell, think both could run big races. Would love to see all three hitting the last together.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Have to disagree about Time for Rupert. Most solid favourite behind Big Bucks and Cue Card.
Course form, unlike Punchestowns last year makes him hard to look past.

Wymott for the RSA is a huge danger. Forget Wayward Prince(and I've backed him),Wymott is the worry for me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

    I'd also like to add
Nadiya De La Vega 33/1 Jewson. If I remember correctly was going well in the grade 2 over 2 and a half behind Medermit until he made a bad mistake. Think it's far too overpriced

Hell's Bay 9/1 in the same race is cracking each way bet. Loves the course and distance.

Punchestowns had course form over hurdles, as long as they act on the track its happy days.

Can't agree. They're some stiff fences around Cheltenham.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

It was stable money that brought Wayward in from 20s....from what I've read.

They do take some jumping but if they have any course form and are solid jumpers thats usually enough for me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Edit:I meant Mr Gardner for the RSA,not Nadiya De La Vega.

Wymott easily beat him over hurdles and the way Wayward Prince won the last day left a few questions for me.

You know I thhink he's a lazy horse. IOr at least thats what it looks like. Their explanation is that he needs a strong pace to jump well, like many other animals - Dunguib is one off the top of my head.

Hes a very good horse and will get the pace he needs in the RSA, just left to see if it has the desired effect.

Que Card is by no means a good thing boys

Henderson has unleashed 2 possible wonder horses in Splinter Sacre & Spirit Son recently (both 7/1) Obviously form isnt up there with QC yet, but i know Barry Geraghty loves SS and he thinks he could go all the way. If you can find a replay of their races you'll be very impressed. Whatever Henderson decides to run in this race will get my money.
Zaidpour cant be ruled out either as i personally think he'll love the better ground and faster pace. Ruby may be on too !!?? Him or Al Ferof i guess.

I know Dunguib was odds on last year but at 9/4 QC is still too short in my book.
And he'll have as bad a jockey as O'Connell on his back too :confused:

My big fancy for the festival is actually a treble > Quevega, Big Bucks and Big Zeb.

At a bigger price my other fancy is Kalahari King.. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

At a big huge price Captain Cee Bee in the Champion Chase, real top class on his day, has been kept under wraps this year, it has struck me as a potential gamble by connections. He is being given the same handling he was when he won the Supreme and Harty seems thrilled with him.

My fourfold of the festival is Cue Card, Imperial Commander, Grands Crus and Quevega. 95/1

One of my all time favourite horses, had a few quid on that day he beat Binocular - how good is that form eh !!
My only concern is that he bleeds, and when it happens once it can happen anytime. I might throw a sneaky 5er on him as i love the horse, but not huge betting proposition imo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

Ah yeah that is always the danger but he is a machine on his day, worth a smash at the price :D

    Yeah a smash >> a 5er, its a recession chief
If Geraghty rides the same kind of race as he did last year Big Zeb will win again. Master Minded is in a recession himself lol

Theres always these possible wonder horses in the Sup Nov, win one or two **** races easily and could be anything. 95% end up being rubbish.

Cue Card has solid form in the book, a run equal to his Bula one should be enough to win. Hopefully he will settle better off the lightening fast pace though and really crush them.

Champion Chase is so much stronger this year than last year. There are 7-8 horses i wouldnt be surprised by if they won.

Quevega and big bucks for me.

I'll be steering clear of cue card, think sprinter sacre looks a machine and a serious danger.

    Can't see anything beating quevega.

Forth. I couldn't have such a short priced mare off for a year. I know she did it fresh last year, but no one knows just how well she is.Better each way shouts in that race, like Our Girl Salley at 14/1.

Cue Card for me, at least I'll know my faith early in the week! I am actually in the position that i can lay it off now for a free bet but I just cant seem him beaten.

Splinter Sacre & Spirit Son, just wondering which SS Geraghty loves?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

I think Geraghty loves Sprinter Sacre and Henderson loves Sprit Son. Difference of opinions. I'd say Geraghty likes his horse more for its ability than affection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,028 ✭✭✭TheMilkyPirate

Does nobody see grands crus as a danger to big bucks?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

A danger,I suppose, but Big Bucks odds against is the bet of the festival.
If anyone comes on here saying Grand Crus at about 5/2 is the bet of the festival then they need their head checked.

Binocular is thebet of the week.

It may be a stronger field than last year, but he bet last years field convincingly.

I don't like Peddlers Cross in that I find it hard to see a horse who won a course 2m5 having the speed for 2m against 2m specialists.
I understand Hardy Eustace did it, but firstly, lets not get carried away comparing an unproven PC to a 2 time champion, and secondly, Binocular is a superior horse to HE.

Menorah is the biggest danger IMO, and I think he'l find one too good. His greatwood run doesn't thrill me. I understand Oscar Whiskey's form makes him look good, but then again, Henderson has never hidden that Binocular is superior to OW.

Hurricane Fly? He's beaten Solwhit 4 times, which tells us nothing. Certainly his price is no value, especially for a horse that has never ran at C'ham.

Istabraq did it too, so it can be done. PC a huge danger in my book to Bino. But Maguire getting suspended is a huge downside.

Agree with that, i wont even consider HF to win. :pac:

Well, I'm going to invite the scorn and say he's a better bet value wise than BB.

His last victory was visually magnificent.

Bensalem has form with Quevega, and was crushed on the bride.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Ignore form with Bensalem. The horse nearly died over the summer and needed that run,he was beaten almost twenty lengths.

I think people have gone mad. The horse has run over 3 miles once and has never won a grade 1.
Big Bucks has won 2 World Hurdles in a row. If I was told at the start of the season that I could get 11/10 3 weeks before the race I'd have thought he had broken two legs and was going to be running two stone overweight. He cannot be a value bet.

Well go to a head shop and get me a doctor, I think it is one of the best value bets this year. I will fill my boots in a straight forecast and cover it with GC in the without BB market.

Watch his races again, he beat Knockara Beau 10 lengths on the bridle and Knockara Beau won a handicap very impressively next time out.

You know Grands Crus got a rating of 170 for that and Big Bucks best ever was 177, very little to find given how he has improved at a rate of knots this year imo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

I've watched them.I don't think any horse could be bet of the year against Big Bucks when he's so short in the market,I've seen dozens of better looking 5/2 shots.
