Hypothetical queston:

If your child does not score well on the enrolement criteria of schools in your area (e.g. they are not catholic) and does not gain admission, presumably there's a limit of how far you would have to travel to get to a school that will take your child?

What if the nearest school that would take your child was, say, 30 km (or 50 or 100) away. Will the Dept of Education force a school that's nearer to take your child, or what happens in this case?

As far as I know the Dept cannot force a school to take a child, if the school is "full." If a school has not followed the admission policy to the letter, you would have come-back, but otherwise, no.There is no Dept rule about distance from the child's home,hence you could end up at a school a further distance away than would be your choice.
