The Blair Witch Project: still inspiring crap 12 years later.

    Looks interesting.

A montage of official NASA footage from several Apollo missions interleaved with studio directed footage.
The story is a bit cliché, secret military mission to investigate something or other and then the something or other kills everyone, but could make for an interesting horror/thriller.
Still - it could be an interesting and entertaining film, the details of lunar landing hardware seem very good, it even has the proposed Russian design of lander at about 2mins.

My annoyance would be mainly about how they managed to take off a rocket without anyone noticing, big plot gap if ya ask me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Could be a decent premise for a movie without the whole 'lost footage' angle.

think this is hitting the cinemas atm, seen an add for it today. hopefully its decent

Seems like I missed Apollo 14,15,16 and 17 then, they worth watching?

Yeah, episode on each of those missions from the mini-series "From the earth to the moon" :D

I'm getting an error that the vid has been removed, here's another link.

I'm a sucker for these movies though. Or a wimp..........No 'sucker' is better. I just prefer the tension in this sort of horror as opposed to the likes of Insidious (which was a pile of crap).

Kind of agree, Paranormal Activity for all it's flaws and gimickery genuinely creeped me out in a way no conventional horror film ever has. Rec too to a lesser extent.

I dont mind found footage movies as long as the footage that was "found" is watchable. Too much shaky cam annoys the crap outta me and my inertia.

This looks fun though, if a little predictable. next week I think when its on general release?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,138 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

It looks shlocky, but it could be fun. The "found footage" thing can be very annoying when done badly, but films like [REC] or The Tunnel show just how effective the technique can be when used well.

If you like watching 90 mins of absolutely nothing, then this looks the film for you. Even better go watch The Tree of Life, that lasts for 2 1/2 hours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭Peter Walczak

Does anyone know where it's been showing? I'm looking at websites of few cinemas and there is absolutely no mention of that movie being released on Friday... :-/

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 18,802 CMod ✭✭✭✭The Black Oil

It's mentioned on Cineworld's site, though with 'TBC' written next to it. Screenings start at 10:30am.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,614 ✭✭✭ArtSmart

Was thinking of going late show tonight.

    Anyone seen it yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,614 ✭✭✭ArtSmart

Seen late showing of this monstrosity. dreadful. utter bollix.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

Saw this the other night in a double bill with Fright Night.

    It is absoloute garbage.
    Avoid at all costs.

Absolute muck. Considered walking out but there wasnt long left so said i'd stick it out. Terrible, predictable and not scary at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭jumpjack

how much blood and how many badwords are in this movie?
Looking at trailer I guess it's made for children (an horror/sci-fi version of Goonies ? :-) ), but I can't say untill I'll see it.
And "being for children" does not mean "silly" (unless you think ET was silly ;-) )

I'm pretty sure you're talking about Super 8, not Apollo 18.

Right, I had both thread open at same time...

Seemed pretty short, look of it was okay but story was never going to great. Two slightly scary scenes if I remember right. Did like one or two aspects of it but overall bit not worth seeing

awful movie with nothing about it at all

film is good for about 30 mins.. but then gets bad quickly.

if they stretched the intro out more it would have been better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Times like this I'm glad I have a Cineworld card so technically did not pay specifically to see this. What a load of dull and uninspired tosh.
Also accompanied by the trailer to Paranormal Activity 3

    Seriously,
    fracking moon crabs???

    Garbage.

    fracking moon crabs???

    *Ahem*
moon crabs that morph into rocks ;-)

Anyone else find it weird how when the guys were messing about outside on the moon gravity seemed to be just like Earth gravity for most of the film?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 169 ✭✭JennyBurke101

Worst film ever I was so bored ...Like literally I was about to stand up and leave ...there was a really cute old couple eating ice-cream beside me ...so I stayed to watch that heartwarming event ...It had nothing to do with the film what so ever!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,732 ✭✭✭rain on

I loved it! Seems I'm in quite the minority there though

How though...it was so long and drawn out ..they could of made it brilliant a real scary ...heart racing film ...but instead it was pretty meh....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,732 ✭✭✭rain on

It wasn't even that long, 86 minutes according to IMDB, I was expecting it to be a good twenty minutes longer. It scared the pants off me in some bits, and the ending made me really sad .. the whole film stayed with me for days. Myself and the OH both really enjoyed it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 169 ✭✭JennyBurke101

tut tut I wanted to feel the way you did ...sadly it just wasnt happening for me!!! :( Glad somebody enjoyed it though ...maybe I will appreciate it more on dvd!!

Yeah spotted that. Ruined the feel of the film for me. That and the pace. I would've liked to have seen what resulted when
the infection took over, if he turned.

The biggest plot hole was that it's portrayed as a found footage flick. How the hell did they
find the footage if no one made it back?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,273 ✭✭✭Morlar

I thought it was ok, reasonable plot that fit nicely into the 70's conspiracy mood. Also how the plot lined up with several real life facts, e.g, the actual moon rocks that have gone missing all over the planet, the sudden total stop to moon landings etc. Nicely put together 70's style conspiracy sci-fi horror. It's not at the same production levels of something like 'Sunshine' or something like that but it's definitely watchable.

The most retarded film I've ever seen!
The aliens attacking the astronauts are moon rocks.

Like the moon landing the footage they filmed would've been streamed live back to earth. Nasa just would've kept the reels.

Just realised they stole it from the 3rd Pirates of the Carribbean. When Jack Sparrow is in davey jones locker, the rocks turn into crabs and carry the black pearl.

2011 has been a terrible year for films :/

    It kills me to bump this, but I simply must vent how bad this film is;

It's a disjointed, hard to watch, & utter mess of a film. Shockingly bad infact, & is a contender for the worst film I've seen in recent times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭texidub

Sheesh. Tough crowd. It wasn't THAT bad. Bit of bias setting in on this thread.

I'm pretty hard to disappoint when it comes to films, & I'll give anything a fair chance provided its the type of film I like.

Actually tbh, usually when people are slating a film it means I'll probably half like it in a weird way...that's how easy going I am judging them.

This film deserves every negative post though, its abysmal, truly abysmal

I must have seen a different film to the rest of you, I thought it was fine as far as these found footage films go.
Like the bit where they found the
    cosmonaut
, thought they used that bit well.
    The moon
    rock/crabs
were odd but Star Trek has done worse.

    Overall, 6/10.

I should note however that I had just watched Melancholia which had lowered my bar slightly considering I rate it one of the worst films I've ever seen.

Thank F i turned this film off after 25 mins..
Not bothering with any more so called horror films. Think I better off letting the missus choose from now on.
