Bags packed, hurried kisses, awkward embraces, limited funds, head full of dreams, competing emotions of dread and exstacy are the currency of the moment. A great journey is about to be embarked upon, where it will lead to is left to the winds of fate.
He arrives at this new place bewildered, stumbling, until he finds his feet. In time he does well and with confidence welling in his breast pronounces it far superior to the place he left behind. This state continued for some time and then cupid intervened.
The children are growing now, perfectly comfortable in their world, speaking in an accent that is so different to the lilting voices of his native shore. The subtle winds of change were blowing and now that he is not carousing with his friends of old, a cloudy mind is his everyday companion.
Memories were taking on a rosy hue and often he found himself taking a caustic view of this land that it seems like only yesterday he embraced so enthuastically. His mind is now constantly journeying back to a time when days seemed endless, music and song filled the air and even the rain and cold provoke a nostalgic warmth.
He wants to go back but they won't go, this is their land, their world, and his land is foreign to them. He wants his bones to be laid in the soil that spawned him and constantly thinks of all the ways that this could be achieved.
But finally resignation sets in and a bitter acceptance prevails. He is still a participant in his adopted land but inside he is slowly dying.
