Depends what your goal is [massive weight loss, loose small amount of weight, maintence, bulk up etc] and also if your talking about simple carbs or complex carbs?

Give us a rough outline of what your eating on an average day now?

What he said, it depends on your goals and lifestyle.

As a quick rule of thumb, the more exercise you do, the more carbs you can eat. Add extra carbs to bulk, reduce carbs to lose weight. No matter what your goals, base your carb intake on fresh whole food, not processed crap.

Basically i would like to lose some weight but im not a big dieter i would walk most day's but that would be it...

    Typical Day
Breakfast i would have two slices of toast or a bowl of porridge/ready break

    Lunch

a roll or sandwhich with filling
    a yogurt and fruit

    Dinner

    meat/or fish
    spuds loads of veg

    Snack
    bar/taytos
    yogurt

At weekends i would have a takeaway 2 nights

Ivetried to cut my portion of spuds to half what i would normally have and bulk up with loads of veg..
Ive have also tried to stop eating about 2/3hours befor goin to bed..

    hey,

all you need to do is cut out the crisps bars and takeaways.
a bar can easily be 250 calories so one a day is 1750 cals aka half pound of fat
the takeaways can range from 1,000 to 25,000:D depending on what you're having so knock them on the head...or at least one of them.
once you do this and get out for a good brisk walk 4/5 days like you say you are then you're away.
try to snack on fruit, carrots/peppers & humous, oat cakes and that kind of thing instead of the crap.
maybe an egg or two in the mornings with your toast.
keep yourself well hydrated too with lots of water.
