According to http://www.we-loveanime.com/ there are going to be a number of anime screenings in Cineworld Dublin on the weekend of May 13th - 15th as part of the Coca-Cola Cinemagic season.

Redline, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Summer Wars and The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya are the films that are set to be shown.

If you buy a ticket for all the screenings you will receive a goodie bag containing an Uniqlo Naruto t-shirt, art cards and an unspecified dvd with other stuff that has yet to be disclosed.

Which night would suit you best for a forum meet up? 13 votes

And I'll be going to all of them, thanks for the info. It'll be great to see Suzumiya in the cinema, and I haven't watched Redline yet, but heard good things. And I guess I'll give away the Naruto thing to someone else. I certainly don't want it.

Got excited for a second, then realized they're probably all dubbed. Instant loss of interest for me.

Oh hell yes! I will be at Summer Wars for sure!

On the site it says "Japanese with English subtitles" as the language for each film.

Possibly, smack in the middle of exam season. If not, organise beers for post show antics?

Of course it's in Edinburgh. This event is an extension of the Scotland Loves Anime events from last year that ran between Glasgow and Edinburgh hence the name change to We Love Anime.

Since Haruhi was shown last year iirc the flims in Edinburgh are Redline, King of Thorn, Laputa and Sword of the Stranger.

:P didn't realise I was suppose to know that from the opening post...

I did go to the edinburgh Scotland Loves Anime event but since that was only a few months ago I'm a little surprised its on again as soon. I thought redline was shown in edinburgh though...

None of that was mentioned in the op, when you say 'of course its in edinburgh' is that your way of saying people should just guess when and where events are on if you couldn't be bothered to make a detailed promotional post?

As this is an Irish site for posters predominantly in Ireland I mentioned the Cineworld event as it is the most relevant.

I am just an Irish anime fan giving information that I came across about an event that other like minded boards.ie members might wish to attend, and as such I have no affiliation with the organizers of this event. I apologise if anyone got the impression that I was from the opening post.

For any ex-pats that are into anime the other events are taking place in the following cities:

Birmingham 26/03 Redline in The Electric Cinema
Edinburgh 26/03 - 27/03 Summer Wars, King of Thorn, Laputa and Sword of the Stranger in the Filmhouse Cinema (Said Redline earlier and not Summer Wars, my bad)
Leeds 02/04 Summer Wars, Redline, Laputa and TBA in Hyde Park Cinema
Dumfries 04/06 - 07/06 in The Robert Burns Centre for Film and Theatre
    London 04/07 in the Barbican
Newcastle TBA in the Tyneside Cinema

I'd love to see Haruhi in the cinema. But it depends on whether it clashes with Eurovision o_O

Oooooh! Thanks a mil for the heads up OP. I would love to go to this but I'm afraid I'd be labelled a 'newb'. Aw. <sulks>

This is starting to remind me now; What about the IFI Anime Festival that they've held for the last 2 years? Both held at the end of March, I could've sworn it'd be announced by now.

I'd say these were supposed to be shown in that but due to additional backing from Manga Ent they could afford to move it to the larger venue.

If screenings do go ahead in the IFI can't see them being too dissimilar from this. Hopefully they will get Trigun, but there are no anime listings on any weekend in March according to their site so I wouldn't count on it.

Go anyway! Whether it's your first anime or fiftieth, it doesn't matter. It's not every day you get the chance to see anime in the cinema.

Hey, don't be afraid to show up! We don't bite! Maybe dress a bit funny (especially me :P) but in general you will find the anime community very welcoming :).

Ye won't be labelled noobs lads! Sure, it's just going to the cinema - most people won't have a clue who you are or what you know about anime or whatever it is that's bothering ye :)

I'll organise a more definite plan for a forum meet up centered around this in the next few weeks. Again, anyone can come, we're all nice people :D

The film times and ticket prices have been announced on the Cinemagic website.

    Haruhi - Friday 13th 18:30
    Summer Wars - Saturday 14th 15:00
    Redline - Saturday 14th 18:30
    Laputa - Sunday 15th 15:00

Tickets to all screenings are €4 for children and €5 for adults.

I find the ticket pricing to be very reasonable considering that the price of a ticket for a standard 2D film is usually €9.30 in Cineworld.

Definitely, I was expecting them to be way dearer than that.

I want to go see Haruhi and I've seen the series. I want to bring my partner though - do you need to have watched the series to follow the film or will she be alright jumping straight in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭knick_knack

Cheers for the times and prices. Must agree €5 for a ticket is brilliant value

Most anime movies will allow you to follow them pretty easily though you might not understand some of the more subtle references

Adding a poll to this thread so we can see which night suits people best to have a forum meet up :)

There are films on Friday and Saturday evening in Cineworld so I'm thinking meet up straight after the film and go for drinks in a nearby pub? Possibly food if people want, sure post your thoughts here!

So yes, please vote in the poll at the top of this thread for the night or nights which suit you best.

Oh, and just to add, even if you're not going to the films, you're still 100% welcome to join the meet!

Anyone else having problems booking the Haruhi movie via the Cineworld website. I sincerely hope it hasn't sold out already. :(

Would like to go for drinks afterwards though. Having never been to one of these meetups.

It's not sold out. I was told there are about 70 seats left when I was in there today. Unfortunately all sales for the anime screenings have apparently been suspended pending certification, so I was unable to book myself either.

This extends to Summer Wars and Laputa aswell for some reason as both of them have been certified for their respective dvd/bluray releases.

They're in the "book tickets" section on the Cineworld homepage. Just scroll down the list of films on the right.
