    NOT ANOTHER RELIGION THREAD!!!

Well this isn't really a debate, it's just a straightforward question, with a yes or no answer.

    Mine is: NO

    Thank you for your time.

By the way if you answer no, you're not a Roman Catholic.

Yes indeed not another religion thread.

    Why are you even asking,

If Catholic, yes. If not, no.

Now let's see how long we can go before the Catholic bashing starts

    here's a question!

could god create an argument so circular even he could not believe it?

Course not. Couldn't even suspend my disbelief as a seven year old.

No. But whatever it is, it tastes nice.

I'd imagine it goes well with a few chilled beers.

A normal guy grows up in a normal town
He goes to a normal educational institution
After said education, he receives some "blessings" from an older guy who has gone and done similar things but has attained more of those "blessings"

Then the guy says a few words and does some hand gestures over some crackers

These crackers then transform into the actual body **not a representation of - the actual body** of the son of the most important deity in western culture, the same deity who is supposedly responsible for everything - earth, sun, sky, moon, every facet of life and culture, the whole lot

    .....
    No is my answer

The Catholic church have just launched a new low-fat communion wafer.

    It's called

    "I can't believe it's not Jesus!"

Well we have a breed of eejits in Ireland who will tick "Catholic" on the census, then turn around and vote no on this.

As I said, it's just a poll, no need to bash although that would be fun to watch.

Fair enough I suppose, but I actually have quite a bit of respect for someone who calls themselves religious but is willing to be skeptical about some elements of their faith. A critical mind doesn't necessariy preclude spirituality. Many atheists have less intelligence and appear to revere science as some sort of deity.

If we really believed that communion is the body of Christ wouldn't that make us cannibals?

You can buy them on Ebay. I think they'd probably be nice with salsa dip.

BTW, I've reported that listing to Ebay, as I believe it contravenes their rules and policies.

    Don't forget the wine/blood/vampire thing.

Seriously, next time you attend mass listen to the prayers.

It's like bad science fiction writing.

I've always said to myself that I would not be a bigot but I actually have no problem with openly hating and making fun of the catholic church given it's own bigotry that continues today. So enjoy peeling that wafer from the roof of your mouth

don't you ever question your faith?

what would be funny is the pope in an interrogation room, face down with a knee in his back, still not providing realistic answers.

So in order to be Roman Catholic you have to believe every single teaching of the Roman Catholic Church and can not disagree with any. Is this what you are saying?

So how do you explain how different Popes have made changes in the church then?

True it is a fundamental distinction between Protestant and Roman Catholic teaching but that dose not mean you cease to be Roman Catholic if you do not believe it.

I refuse to accept that people who vote yes are intelligent enough to use a computer. Therefore, I conclude we have a number of people who are suffering from parkinsons and actually meant to click no.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,674 ✭✭✭Dangerous Man

Let me put it to you like this -

    Am I Catholic? No

Do I believe that communion is the body of Christ? Yes.

Do I eat the body of Christ? Yes.

Fuck[/U]you Christ - I eat you - nom nom nom nom nom.

Going against the majority and going with yes.

It's faith pure and simple. It's meant to defy logical assumption.
If you've ever had life or death experiences it does tend to open your mind to the possibility.

By the way, that's just my own opinion. I'm not going to try and defend my beliefs to anyone here as I'm pretty far from a missionary

I refuse to accept that people can be that blindly bigoted, therefore I invoke Poe's law: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Poe's_Law

Many years ago my rabidly Catholic granny was diagnosed with coeliac's disease (allergy to gluten), she duly gave up her 'daily bread' and was given a sip of the wine instead...as a precocious teenager I asked did that mean that granny was a protestant because she didn't believe in transubstantiation (I think we were doing the reformation in school)...cue clip on the ear and reminder to be seen and not heard...the proof of the puddin's in the atein...

No.. I can think for myself and really enjoy ridiculing organised religion. Emphasis on "organised religion".
I admire faith and spirituality but anyone who believes in a man-made book is a complete eejit. People don't seem to realise that their own idea of spirituality is just as valid as the world's biggest religion.
