That vid looked class! Just saw a vid a while ago with Ken Block talking about his Gymkhana thing, home made obstacle course to thrash his Impreza around and talking bout how it will be in Dirt 3. I'm looking for a good racer for ages, they are either too arcadey or too simmy. Havn't played Shift 2 yet tho. Will be keeping my eye for more details on Dirt 3.

This Group B trailer def has my interest peeked

i wonder does it have a realistic end over end rolling action like the real thing :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

Hmmm for 300 dollars it better be some petrol powered rc car. As you can buy serious rc car for that money...

If it will be Argos style rc car with fiesta skin... Well Fu then.

I have to admit, class b rally looks savage. I was newer into rally games, but this looks class!

P.s shift 2 is great. If you bored of your usual sim ( gt5 or forza 3 ) then shift 2 is great thing to refresh your racing boner.

That was sarcasm. As prices get really "fixed" when goods come over to this island...

Collectors edition gt5 with that merc model costed 200 quid in gamestop. Where's the rest of the world bought it for 100dollars.

Ah haha I was thinking the same, went looking for the Dirt 2 demo on PSN but theres none there, i'm sure there was one before! Does it have a good single player career mode?

load of new Dirt 3 vids at gametrailers

    http://www.gametrailers.com/game/dirt-3/13638

ps. can the thread title be changed to just Dirt 3 please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,975 ✭✭✭iMuse

Id consider getting this if it had more classic rallying rather than all those offroad races.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

To be honest... It does not look great...

There is that video with celica which looked very average. Multiplayer mods meh... Some sort of arcade stuff.

That class b trailer was savage, but the rest of the stuff is meh.

Bump on this, game unlocked on Steam last night so I was playing it for a while.

    What a great game!

    Pros:
    - Better graphics
    - Better handling
    - More rallying
    - More complex car setup options

    Cons:
    - The idiotic commentary in career mode

Always loved the series, DiRT 2 was a step forward for gameplay but a step backwards for rallying, but DiRT 3 has found a very nice level field. Great game!

Been waiting for this, surprised how quiet the release is being.I'm almost finished Shift 2, wonder if this would be worth a trade, any news of a demo?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,137 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

No demo I'm afraid but the reviews are all very positive. Just been trying out the new Youtube feature they have (you can upload replay clips directy to your account). Doesn't render in HD at all, only up to 480p

It's a great game though, very stylish interface too.

Got it today, its a great game but dont rush to buy it if you want to play online, you need to enter a code into the psn store which isnt working!!

Can you compare to any other racers out at the moment of its better or worse? really not sure whether to pick it up or not.

Think the last rally game I played was V-Rally 2 on the PS1. I'm spending more time in the ditch than on the road

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,975 ✭✭✭iMuse

Its an improvement on Dirt 2, seems to be more proper rallying which I prefer.

Great game, way better than Dirt 2 and it looks brilliant in 3D.

My friend got it yesterday. Biggest reason why he bought it was very silly :). He drives same model ford fiesta zetec-s as o the cover lol.

He said its savage. He would not be a petrolhead like me, but he knows what is fun, so I tryst him. You did not let me down with shift 2 too. Review perfectly hit the spot.

Problem is: I am skinned after paying rent, bills, insurance... Waiting on answer from bank on mortgage today too... Can't afford to spend a penny :(

    Any good deals for this?

only one i've seen so far is gamestop for €50

wow. Dirt 2 just never ... did anything for me :) I wanted to likeit but... couldn't.

Dirt 3 is an insta-hit. Great stuff. Add me to your 360 friends list if thats your Dirt format of choice... SendMoreCorpses.

This game is great, tons of content.

The multiplayer is super smooth, feels like dedicated servers. I have an awful connection, and I haven't had an ounce of lag yet. Outbreak and Transporter are tons of fun to play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

Really liked Dirt 2 but the lack of real rallying was annoying. Plus everyone saying "Dawg" and "Dope" was too American and silly for me.

This is a perfect balance though the commentary is utter naff, cringeworthy stuff. Doesn't anyone speak English anymore? :pac:

Still, fun game though I really need to get my Xbox controller back off my mate. This keyboard mullarkey just doesn't cut it.

Looking at some online vids like that Outbreak mode just looks like a great laugh, seriously tempted to trade Shift 2 for it.

If you can at all and are into racing games try get yourself a pedal/wheel setup, totally transforms your racing, trust me.

I know, I've played with them before. Proper job for them but I neither have the money nor the appropiate place to set up a wheel / pedal at the moment.

Picked this game up on Xbox last night and played a couple of tournaments.

First impressions are good. After a couple of races I was back in the swing of things like I had never left Dirt 1.

Graphics didn't seem as good as Dirt 1 though maybe that's just me though, they're not bad in any case.

This game should keep me busy for a while. Early days but I'd recommended it if you liked the original version.

I thought the vehicles, in the original, handled like shopping trolleys. I take it this is much the same, then? :)

I don't suppose anyone knows when the PC version of this will be available in shops? I checked GAME, HMV and GameStop in Limerick (in the city and Crescent Shopping Centre) and nobody seemed to have it - I know it's available on Steam, but I'd prefer to have a boxed copy of it (and it'd take me ages to download the game on my internet connection :o)

I wouldn't say that no. I liked Tue first one, cars felt a bit like they were on an axis but it was still fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,586 ✭✭✭Healium

A gold "WR" popped up on screen beside my lap time. Did I just break a World Record? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,085 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Really enjoying it, million times better than last years but still a bit away from being as good as the Colin McRae games before it when you had the actual rally championship to take part in and had tons of settings for the cars.

The lack of a season to take part in, car settings and the idiot announcer just hold this off from being a classic. solid 8/10 though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,397 ✭✭✭Paparazzo

So, is it worth getting? I've read some mixed reviews. I have gran turismo, but the rally part isn't great. Does it work well with a DFGT wheel?

EDIT: Feck it, i'm buying it anyway. €35 delivered is worth it

Enjoying it, but there really needs to be an option to turn off the announcer voices. They are really annoying, especially the "put it on YouTube" one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,397 ✭✭✭Paparazzo

Love the game, but hate the Gymkhana shìte. And the announcer guy is terrible. Sounds like his lines were written by 5 60 year old guys trying to appeal to young players.

And to answer my own question above, its far better than rally in gt5 and works great with a DFGT wheel

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,137 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

Its an 8/10 for me. Would be a 9/10 if it didn't have the announcer crap and the Gymkhana stuff too.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. Cars handle really well and there's a nice selection there too.
