YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ANYONE BEERS! April 2nd Venue: The Grand Social

The Weekend that brings us April Fools. For too long it's been the sole property of those who would seek to prank and annoy.

    I SAY NO MORE!

Let us, the creatures and humans of then night take this weekend as our own and declare it YOU'RE NOT FOOLING ANYONE BEERS weekend.

Shall we have these beers on Friday the 1st - traditional day of so called pranking or shall we have it on Saturday the 2nd - a night where losers contemplate how they were once again fooled by something trivial.

It is this humble Moderator's opinion that The Grand Social was a most pleasant venue for our last soiree and that we may once again consider it for this event. I'm flexible on whichever day we pick, but would lean more towards the Saturday as I tend to be very tired on Friday evenings after a week's work.

    BIG Massive Awesome Beers!!

    Pick a date:

    1st = Friday + a birthday + april fools :p
2nd = Saturday (safer option from evil April Fools) :D

That is a month and 12 days notice to everyone!!

This post can be edited at a later date to include the venue and time when it has all been decided

    I vote the 1st for obvious reasons:D

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 28,633 Mod ✭✭✭✭Shiminay

And as if by magic, the thread became sticky!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 872 ✭✭✭micayla

Also I recommend the Odeon as a possible venue, large booths and you can reserve tables:D Also they do food!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭Futurecrook

Can a poll be added? :)

I'm totally up for beers. Not on a Friday though. I have a super early start on a Saturday and can't be drunk/hungover. :pac:

So I cast my vote for Saturday the 2nd! :)

I also say Saturday, so people can't pull the "but I gotsta work Saturday morning" card or the "I'm too tired from work" card !

Also, the Odeon? Seems trendy and scary, or at least it always seems so as I pass by it. Looking in. Longingly and lonely. :(
(Why doesn't boards have more emoticons :( )

    But birthday:(

It's not that intimidating when you're in there:)

Hmmm it's true though some folks may have the ole working Saturday thing going. Less likely to have folks working on a Sunday!

As long as where we go the pints are cheap!

Had an AWESOME night in the SubLounge/O'Reillys. Pints very cheap considering it's Dublin :p(under €4!!)

So I'm voting for there :)

A poll will be sorted out I suppose with the date first and then the venues?

Keep throwing out ideas for places though more options then. Keep it Central enough though! :P

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 28,633 Mod ✭✭✭✭Shiminay

You can't add 2 polls to a thread, so I figure we get general consensus on Friday or Saturday first and then poll for venue.

TBH though, picking venues etc takes way too long - just pick one and that's that. Many years of organising Boards Beers has taught me well. :)

Sub Lounge on the 2nd it is then!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭Futurecrook

Last time we tried to reserve an area in Sublounge they wouldn't let us for some reason. Just throwing that out there. If we're expecting large numbers then it would probably be better to be guaranteed seats all together. :)

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 28,633 Mod ✭✭✭✭Shiminay

Agreed, SubLounge weren't all that accomodating before. I believe they've got a new name now and are trying to be a Rock Bar or something. That's not a problem for me, I'm just saying...

Hmm that's odd a group of about 20 or so of us had beers there a few weeks ago under the name "Boards" and we had a whole section to ourselves 3 or 4 big tables. Even had the wee print outs with the name Boards on it stuck to the tables for us :pac:

Maybe it's under new management now since last time

When you said "The 1st for obvious reasons"... are those obvious, but unmentioned, reasons your birthday? Because, to be honest, I'd assume the obvious reason was April Fools Day, so, ya kiiiinda have to spell it out a smidge. :) Of course having the beers on the 2nd just means we can have two days of drinking joy :D

It was mentioned in the other thread:p Hmm you make a good point sir:) To be honest, this is the first time my birthday's been on a weekend and not on Easter weekend in ages, for years I had to postpone the damn thing, stupid catholic holidays! I shall of course be at drinks whatever night they are on:)

You assume too much by assuming I read all the threads. There was a time, about a week ago, when yes, I would read every word uttered on the Noc... but now I'm more like a selective hermit crab, picking up a new home now and again while living away from the other normal crabs and their fancy hard shells.

I'm sure there's a book to be written about your birthdays over the years :)

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the Beers, but once you get into locked a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a Noc in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

I never felt like I was an "old" mod on boards until this moment.

That is because I just had a nostalgic feeling about Kharn organising a beers on boards.

    Oh, the memories.

    I'm voting 1st { Friday} in Grand Social.
There is just something bout the Sub Lounge I don't like plus there is normally a 20min queue for the bar :/

    Doctor DooM,

If you want you can store your gear in the Hackerspace { 5min walk from Grand Social }, I've keys so have 24/7 access. It will be safely locked away so you will not have to worry bout it getting lost/stolen/damaged.

I'm voting the second in the Grand Social.
