    ya
, sitting for most of a year, just started and ticking over once ever 3 months, a shame for a nice car

€4500 isn't hugely fantastic really, it defo needs a claybarring and polishing at a minimum along with possibly a timing belt, auxiliary belts and tyres along with a full service. No way would I be bringing that to the redline on a belt that have sat for a year on the cams.

    You weren't robbed though :)

4.5k for that car is a cracking deal imo providing it has a decent history and is in good mechanical condition.

OP, use some of the money you saved and book it into www.detailer.ie , Andy will love getting his hands on this :D

like i said a bit of a panic buy, but was offered 5k today for it , he only sold it to me being cousins and good friends first, would i be better getting rid of quickly ?

i'm 31 , clean driving license , but quinn quoted me 1500 for insurance , dear god

Hold onto it for a few weeks and tidy her up a bit, a good buff/compound a service and drive it a few miles to blow the cobwebs off her, you might turn a few quid but it wont be a lot imo. If i was after spending 4.5k on it i'd hold onto it myself

For €6000 you'd buy one with a fresh NCT, decent rubber and a recent timing belt in very good condition, ie something with a screen price of €6500. If I bought the one the OP has just bought first thing I'd be doing is the timing belt and water pump along with a full service. More than likely tires too :)

    I agree it's a good price but it's not €4500 on the road :)

my best friend is a mechanic, he thinks only 300/400 euros to get it sorted, that is without the polishing though. will try to insure for 3 months though, any ideas where to ring.

Nice motor!! Badly needs a good cleaning it looks brutal the way it is.. I dont think you were screwed in price though. Onkle here has a really nice one no doubt he will tell you all the inns and outs of the car..:)

it cost the cousin about 1000 to pass last nct, emissions etc, but since no driving done since it should pass easy, and before the yearly nct comes into play

Looks like a nice car. Needs an airing though, is it damp on the inside? Check for water in the boot or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,003 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

cousin got it serviced honda dealers sinece in ireland, the lad in kerry who owned it previous had full records. not sure what the japs did with it really.

my cousin got a girlfriend and moved in with her, 1 car was enough for them, he was not short of a bob so he did not bother doing anything. he just bought a new mazda 6 so all he wanted was to get rid of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 479 ✭✭Ev84

Did you ever check the back quarter-panel for filler with a magnet or anything?
I know the car was sitting up for a while and it would get that "greenish" stain on it but why is the Right-hand side drivers door perfect and the back quarter-panel green? Is it like a re-spray? Is there any signs of over-spray on the rubber trim around the back side-window?

It might just be the photos at night but if it was ever crashed obviously that will reduce it's value but just make sure there is no chassis damage that will make it unsafe to drive. You don't want to be "Rallyin' da s**t out of it" with a bent chassis as well as all the other things the lads mentioned above...

You got a good bargain on her but some bargains are for a reason, i hope you got a genuine deal cause she's some car bud...

Serious car though, I'd love a spin off it... well wear man. well wear..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,003 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

could have had a tip in japan for all i know, but chassis is straight and is a good car (i hope !!)

still if anyone knows some decent insurers that will cover me it would be appreciated

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 479 ✭✭Ev84

Can't really help you there bud, All insurers quote everyone differently...

Enjoy the car man. 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC, She's an animal.

No timing belt here i'm afraid ;).

These cars don't need much tbh and if the KMs are correct the car is just come into it's peak.
I would just do an oil and filter change and get everything looked over for spoiling as the lying up may have caused some problems.
The colour change is a common occurrence in the Championship White version of the Dc5 and other Hondas, just needs some proper deep down cleaning to bring it up.
Seems like an odd story all the same to me,these cars do not just sit up for a long time like that.

I think you got a fair deal.Really love the DC5, its a special machine imo, a dying breed.

I dont really like the power delivery/noise of vtec honda's, but the DC5 is different in that it has deceptive power, you actually don't really hear its vtec switching in too much at 6000rpm, best of all it has a 6 gear box as well for cruising.

You cant really get a better modern car for 5k

White is the best colour as well imo.

    lovely yoke them DC5's

Why it would lie around in such a sorrid state beggars belief, the inside must be pretty shagged with mildew and other assorted greenish bits.

cheap price for a genuine type r though

Really?? I think that is one ugly b*stard of a front bumper. The factory bumper is FAR better looking than that yoke.

Anyways OP small bit of work to get her back to her former glory but at 4500 I think you're coming out of that deal very nicely provided all is good mechanically and chassis wise

    hi

sorry to jump on board this but u reckon I will find a honda integra like this for 5k?

Not a hope in hell. Youre talking 7-8k for a very clean one with all the right work done.

Not a bad old deal with your one OP, itll need a good bit of tlc, oil and filters, a good detailing and possibly bushes too after having been sat around for 12 months unused.

Very strange that a car like this would be left lying like this, is there more to this story?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 383 ✭✭coronaextra

Nice car looks like a fair deal for 4.5K.
I would be weary of redlining her before getting the oil, coolant etc. changed and use the correct oil. I know of one or two cars where the k20 big end bearings gave in.

I've been led to believe that the dramatic crossover of the older VTEC's was engineered in to give a reassuring kick in the arse. Take a DC2, the crossover is 5800 but the power starts to drop off at 5200ish and when the high lift engages you get a 'boost'. With a VTEC controller or ECU map you can smooth out your power line and the crossover will be less dramatic but will lead to a car that's quicker to accelerate.

Where was that pic taken btw?

The car in the OP could be a bargain but if I was the OP I would have it thoroughly inspected. Has it been stored on grass all this time? The suspension in those cars have lots of bushings, sitting on grass for a long time could be detrimental. Also check all the brake hoses, could be a good opportunity to move over to braided lines actually. The car really needs to be stuck on a ramp and given a good going over, if it checks out you could well have gotten a bargain

For the money you paid you did well.

Big service, flush the oil and then give it an oil change, Belts the lot.

Then claybar and polish the car wax and seal it and your done.

As for 1500 for insurance that's not too bad either im paying 1100 on an sir and im old. I was quoted substantially more.

update, can get fully comp off axa for 797 , which is 400 cheaper to nearest insurer. just took car for spin now, its ticking over between 1000-3000 every second. taking it to a friend to put diagnostics on it but hopefully not cost too much.

Its your IACV, they get gummed up when left idle for a while. Just service her normally and give her a good driving and the irratic idle will go away.

Get a new timing belt and water pump, some decent new rubber under her, a full service and you've got a cracking motor!
