Do a bit of research on GVT/German Volume Training.

It's not bad - there's certainly worse that you could be doing!

I have never tried that type of programme, but fair play to anyone who can do 10 sets of 10 pull ups

Yeah, with German Volume training the first few sets or so are meant to be relatively easy, with the intensity only really kicking in from set 6 onwards. I think many people would be struggling after set 4 of the 10 reps of pull ups.

He's doing 10 sets of 10 reps on each excercise. 10x10.

    A killer.

    Why's it pointless?

Who says he wants to get stronger?

How long can you make gains for with 5x3?

What should you do after 5x3?

Why not do 5x5, or 3x5?

What exercises should he use for 5x3?

Dude's a beginner. It doesn't really matter what he does. And it's not like he's going to use that 1 set x rep scheme forever either.

Do you think GVT is the best thing for a beginner? Genuine question. Never tried it. Or anything close.

I'd imagine the very high volume good be good for learning form and adapting to a lift. Would he better off doing mutliple exercises to learn a number of different movements? Would this be mentally taxing/boring for a beginner?

By the way OP, how many pull-ups can you do now? 10x10 sounds like lot for a beginner (and most novices!) Or are they assisted pull-ups?

Would you consider Dan John's 'One Lift a Day' program pointless?

everywhere else i feel im making good gains but find arms so difficult coz i find doin arms boring. normally i just use weights that im reasonably comfortable with and do 3 sets of 8-10

you think i would benefit from this? do it monday and friday....monday would be more intense but on a friday just do mayb 5x5 on bench(i just use dumbells on a monday) and mayb somethin like incline flys.

my routie on a monday would be:
    barbell press(warm up) 2x8-10
    dumbell press 3x5=7
    dumbell fly 3x10
    decline d'bell press: 3x5-7
    decline d'bell fly-3x10
    dips 1xfailure

I'd say you'll get more useful responses if you say what your specific goals are.
