Those films everyone loves, that get rave reviews, are heralded as instant classics and people quote all the time but when you see them you think 'wait, that was quite 5hit' but you don't tell anyone for the fear you just didn't 'get it'.

    Mine are:

No Country for Old Men: Guy finds bag of drugs (correction: money), other guy comes along, kills everyone in sight-
eventually kills the first guy, takes back bag of drugs (money)
    , did I miss something?

The Hangover: Seriously, did people really think this was funny?

    What are yours?

(in before 'Film thread is that way ---->' and pr0n references

You need to see it on a proper screen, I didn't like it all that much until I watched it in class. Was able to appreciate the film much better than on the television. But each to their own I guess.

Gran Torino (or "gravelly voiced man in a fast car")

My friend had it on DVD before I heard the hype, I now know that it was an illegal copy but at the time I assumed it was some straight-to-dvd film Eastwood had done a few years prior.

Formulaic and obvious plot, average performances from a cast I didn't recognise and a cliché main character.

I didn't like it and I don't get the fuss that I later heard.

    The Big Lebowski.

    Dr. Strangelove.

It's not that I hate it, or just didn't get it, it's more, I really don't understand the adoration and confusion that arose for/from Inception.

The plot was pretty linear and incredibly easy to follow as are the timelines. Leading up to me watching it, I avoided any information as everyone said it was an exceptional film that was hard to follow, so I didn't want to ruin it for myself.

So, I get the film, it's a good film and everything, but what I don't get is why everyone thought it's so mental and hard to follow. Are people taking the piss or what when they say it's confusing?

Couple of films that spring to mind; Eastwoods Million Dollar Baby and Unforgiven...Just didn't like either. Unforgiven was terribly boring, and the final shootout scene was quite possibly the most far fetched scene in cinema history.

I also found Once Upon A Time In The West to be quite boring. When I compare it to the other Leone westerns, it is very average.

This is probably the strangest one, but Gladiator didn't do it for me. Again, a little boring. And, just cannot take Crowe as an actor.

I see Gran Torino listed, agree, not great at all!

Also, I see Inception. Biggest pile of horse crap ever. Just all over the place for the sake of it.
    Shutter Island too....

It'll just be remembered 20 years from now as that film that robbed all the Oscars from There Will Be Blood.

No, there was a theory that it was a Christ allegory, which could be applied to lots of "stranger appears in a town" type films... Over-reading between the lines I'd say...

+1 on the hangover and no country.

No Country for Old Men was a pointless waste of screen time.

The Hangover was just mediocre at best. There are much finer comedys out there like Zack and Miri, or Anchorman

    Shawshank Redemption:

    Guy goes to prison,
Guy befriends old veteran who teaches him in the ways of prison life
Guy finds prison is tough - who knew!
    Guy gets gangbanged
Guy escapes prison and meets up with old friend afterwards

    Snore. :pac:

Serious answer - There will be Blood. That fúcking screeching music. DDL playing another seething psychopath, that priest fella that I actually wanted to batter to death with my shoe. Its just wholly irritating from start to finish.

Slumdog Millionaire- heard all the hype before i got round to actually seeing it and i just did not get why people liked it. it was at the very least somewhat enjoyable.

I did like inception though! but saw this when it first came out so didnt know anything at all about it. agree with liah about people being confused though, its quite straight forward! i tried watching it again on dvd cause someone gave it to me for christmas but its so boring when you know the storyline!

Anything, I mean anything with Reeves is just appalling...

Oh, sorry, Point Break was a great film, but that was because the action was so intense....You block Reeves out!

Im sure theres a woman in the world somewhere who enjoys the Big Lebowski. Surely there must be a woman who likes the idea of a man who doesnt do a tap, smokes dope copiously and just wants to enjoy chilling out with his mates........
