    Price €2,100

Purchased this bike in Slane Cyles in Belfast 18 months ago. Since i do triathlons for 8 months of the year I have only been on the Cervelo about 10 times as I train and race on my time trial bike an Orbea Ora. It is in extremely good condition. Its features include Shimano Ultegra groupset and Dura Ace pedals, Mavic Cosmic Elite wheels and the frame is super lightweight carbon. The Cervelo R3 has won Paris Roubaix 3 times. The original cost of the bike with the wheels was 3200 euro. The frame size is 58cm and would suit someone who is 5ft 10 to 6 ft 2 tall.
Can go no lower on the price as it is now 1,100 euro off the price I bought it for and since I have only taken it on about ten spins it is a bargain. Please feel free to ask me any questions here and see photo attached. Thanks.

    No interest whatsoever....recessionary times!

Don't think its the recession, a friend of mine bought a 2009 R
3 with Campag record for €2200 last year. Yours appears to be the 2008 CSC model with Ultegra. I'll offer €1,500, cash waiting.

Have to agree with Spyderski, lovely bike but two years old so worth somewhere in the region of 50% of purchase price!

I have to disagree with you guys. I don't think any bike would lose 50% of its value in 2 yrs. That would make them a higher depreciating asset than even a car and am pretty sure they dont have engines...although some owners of Cervelo R3's would probably disagree with me on this as they are damn fast and can bound up any hill with little effort. Another thing to take into consideration in the value of the bike is the fact that I have only rode the bike a handful of times and is practically brand new and in prisitne condition. On these grounds I respectfully reject your offer of €1,500. I do agree with you guys on one point..it is a lovely bike.

    Thanks

Bikes can lose 50% of their value in one year, never mind two. I've lost 40% on a six month old bike with less than 100km on it.

The main problem with selling (or buying) high-end bikes is that the frame warranties are generally not transferrable from the original owner, so if it cracks the next day you're stuck with a very expensive groupset, wheels and finishing kit.

Nice bike, good luck with the sale.

    Lumen,

Thanks for the feedback. It would be a crime to let that bike go for €1,500 considering what €1,500 would buy you in the shop these days. I tried to come up with a fair valuation for all parties. I don't want to rip anyone off and I don't want to get ripped off. At the end of the day if I have to continue to use it as my 2nd bike then its a very nice 2nd bike to ride.

    Cheers

I would never have realised that, so as a buyer you could pick up a real bargain on a high end bike thats 1 year old?

Love that bike OP but out of my budget, best of luck with sale.

Yes indeed, but as a buyer you shoulder all the risk so the bargain should in theory reflect the cost that the warranty would otherwise cover. Different manufacturers offer different warranties and I don't know Cervelo's - e.g. if the frame comes with a standard 3 year waranty, then the buyout (what the new owner must pay in comparison to what the original owner would) is 1 year - 18 months, if it's lifetime then the buyout is obviously more.

Maybe. The problem is convincing the owner to stomach thousands in depreciation ;)

It's interesting how inflated new frameset prices have gotten in the past year or two. The top level used to be about €2500-€3000, and now the same category of framesets are priced at €3000-€4000.

At the same time, I'm not convinced technology has moved on much, so for the most part the only thing you get from a new bike is an original-owner warranty.

I recently sold my unused litespeed titanium. I agreed with its new owner to make a warranty claim on his behalf , if the frame should suffer from a manufacturing defect related failure in the future.
Your R-3 sure is a lovely bike, one of my friends has one and he is trilled to bits with it. Good luck with the sale. SD..

Sorry OP we have taken over the sale, my last post on this so apologize.

So you have to buy out the warranty and get it transferred?

Cervelo will give a lifetime warranty on the frame to the original owner which is not transferable. Now the original owner could give the new owner a guarentee that he/she will claim the warranty on their behalf if they have any issues, which is what Surfer was doing above.

Have no problem doing that for anyone who is interested in the bike

$1500 is a brave offer, & if the op is desperate for cash and 18 months behind on his mortgage then it might work but otherwise...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭bryangiggsy

Well said. If that was the case though that would definitely be taking advantage of a person who was unfortunate enough to be in that situation.

Wow that is a great deal..reduced from 3,700 euro..if i was buying a bike that would be hard to pass up. Are you going to go for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭bryangiggsy

My bike in the 2011 model is 4,250 euro. Have to admit though not gone on the colours at all.

Nah, I'd be looking for something around the €1,500 mark - there's a recession on you know....

Wouldn't be interested in a brand new bike anyway, too much depreciation...;-)

But for 1500 new u could get this

    Lance's bike in aluminium ;)

Would consider selling the bike without the wheels for €1,800

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 403 ✭✭amjon.

I can offer 1k for the frame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,972 ✭✭✭fat bloke

That's not a bad offer. Cyclelogical had several of these last year, reduced from 2300 to 1800 I think. Lovely looking frames. Though white is a fcukin bastard to keep clean, particularly there under the chain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭bryangiggsy

Let me think on this one. Have never stripped down a bike to the frame..only handlebars, pedals and saddle for travelling abroad for races. How easy can it be done? Is all thats left to do just removing the crankset and brakes?
    Anyone any other advice?

    cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

It's pretty easy to strip it down, as long as you have the right tool for your BB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭bryangiggsy

I cannot accept 1,000 for the frame ..however I would be willing to accept 1,100 for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 403 ✭✭amjon.

Offer stands at 1k for the frameset. It is two years old afterall. I might be able to have a look this Saturday/Sunday if you are interested?

Amjon..am going to take a pass. Am in no rush to sell and i'd prefer to sell whole bike instead. Its going to be gathering dust from now till September as i take out my Orbea this weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 403 ✭✭amjon.

Are you sure? A further 7 months depreciation? Let me know if you change your mind in the next few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭bryangiggsy

Will do but stripping the bike and having to sell off all the other parts having no idea what are worth is putting me off. thanks

Think you misunderstand me - would be buying this as a training bike - my "dream" race bike is in my shed, with a few others - see here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=138864&page=226

Not into €100 euro wheels, as you can see;-)

No problem finding the extra €250 - I just feel its worth €1500.

In your opinion its worth 1500. Maybe because you want it as your 2nd bike. But many people will agree the Cervelo R3 is no 2nd bike thats why i want to sell it. I cant give it the time it deserves as I ride my Orbea 8 mths of the year which is my 1st bike. Picture attched

Price stands at € 1950. The Cervelo is waiting for someone to take it home.

    Keer ryst!

That pic nearly took my eye out! :)

What was your exact address again, time to get my black balaklava on and do some robbing!!
You have some selection of bikes, if you want I can "mind" the Cervelo for you lol

    That Orbea is some machine

Seeing as youre talking sense now, ill up my offer to €1,600. Just trying to be fair, not interested in paying more, so its a final offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭bryangiggsy

Spyder have come down 300 in price and my mates are telling me I am nuts.I have to go with my gut feeling and I believe the bike is worth at least 1800. Having said that it's a recession out there and in the interest of what I believe is a fair deal for both of us I would be willing to close the deal at 1700..but not before you view the bike and see for yourself how few miles are on it. You could have the bike if you like it by the weekend. Final offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,270 ✭✭✭spyderski

Not trying to be rude, but maybe your mates should buy the bike then. €1600 is €100 more than i think its worth, but its a genuine best offer & I'm afraid you wont be getting any more from me....

The R3 seems a nice bike (I've never been on one, btw) but what would be the point of it as a training bike? Surely you should be looking for something with similar geometry to the bike which you have in your shed but heavier. An Alu framed bike with heavier wheels (Askiums?) and a heavier but same branded gruppo (105).

Btw, I'm not interested in buying this OP but good luck with the sale. Looks lovely and should make someone very happy.

No problem. Thanks for the offer but i have to decline.

    Best
