They are fully compatible. They are both York and will fit. Even other cheaper brands (not york) will fit and you can even match vinyl (if you really wanted to!)

I bought a load to weights from Tesco Extra as they are pretty cheap.

Just bear in mind that if you were to buy much more then you would be a fair towards a gym membership.

I'm very concious of that yeah but I got a 100 euro Argos gift card at Xmas.

I'll stick with these for a few months until I get my moneys worth. If I get into it i'll definitely commit to gym membership.

    Thanks.

There are no dumbbell questions, only dumbbell people.

In answer to your question, try and find out the diameters of bars/holes in the specifications of the various products if you can. Should match if all York.

Vinyl/cement are far more bulky, so will take up all the room on the dumbbell handle, and vinyl will degrade over time, the iron will last. On those york one you will be able to fit 2x5kg and a 2.5kg on each side, and the bar itself is around 2kg so you can have a 27kg dumbbell. I can get 3x5kg on side which would be 32kg, but the collars do not screw on fully so you should be careful they are on tight, a tip is to turn the actual plates and the rubber on the collars will lock them up.

After 1 year you have to renew your membership, your plates last for ever. Also if you decide to give up you can sell them. Plates hold their value well, in fact I bought mine new about 5 years ago and they cost over twice as much new now, so if I was to sell them I might get more than I paid for them. Steel (like gold) has increased, you could almost look at it like investing in metals.

The 2 sizes you will come across will be "standard" with 1" diameter holes, and "olympic plates" with 2" diameter holes.

    Those plates say
Suitable for use with 2.5cm diameter dumbbell and barbell bars.
which is 1" standard, if they were olympic it would be more likely to say olympic.

These ones are €6.70 less and will also fit
