Oh Jaysis, the horror continues. Just when you thought the LLS couldn't get any worse, fcuking Jedward.

What sort of stranglehold does that septic midget Louis Walsh have over RTE???

Sorry folks, even with the support of the thread, I don't think I can submit myself for Tubuse tonight.

    Latest Paddy Power odds:

    Jedward 8/13 Favourites
    Nikki Kavanagh 11/4
    Bling 5/1
    Don Mescall 6/1
    Vard Sisters 8/1

    http://www.paddypower.com/bet/music/eurovision-song-contest?ev_oc_grp_ids=303417

    I think Jedward will lose.

The public vote is only worth 1/3, the jury vote is worth 2/3

More often than not, the Irish jurys all vote for the same song - if this happens Jedwards likely public vote win wouldn't be enough.

Jedward will only win if the other songs effectively cancel each other out.

I'd say Nikki Kavanagh is good value at 11/4, but a lot depends on tonight's performances.

I've gotta say it, like them or hate them, Jedward and their song are pure euro-pop. Watching the Eurovision, you can see that Europeans love their outrageous, energetic bands with happy-pop songs. Here in Ireland, UK and US we have a tendency to favour passionate songs sung by sexy singers.

The Europeans like that too but they have a special place in their hearts for silly stuff.

Maybe it's a generational thing. We all grew up with blue peter and zig and zag - silly but in a humourous and playful way. Teenagers of today grew up with out-and-out silliness like the tellytubbies and Hi-5.

Looking and listening to the other line-ups, it's the same old ballady crap that we've been sending over and losing with for the last 15 years. I think if we send Jedward, we stand a good chance of winning overall. Any of the rest and we might as well not bother. The Brits will like whatever we put through, but that's about it.

I was thinking the same Skid.. seems like the voting has been orchestrated to make sure that JEdward wont get through.. for the sheer drama of it (i.e. missed notes, their own brand of madness and unpredictability), I would like to see JEdward do it though..

BUT I think they certainly WILL miss notes tonight on the live performance.. (There seems to be a tricky little falsetto bit at the end of each line of the verse, which I can certainly envisage them messing up)... And I think there WILL be a certain element of snobbery against them with the judges. so I would think it will be difficult for them to get through. I think the judges will go with somebody of a better "pedigree"..

And Poly, dont let it get you down, just get more beer to ease the pain..

I agree, just for the divilment It would be funny to see the Jeds get through.

God knows, you take the laughter where you can get it now.

PS I look forward to your 'as a musician' comments on the arrangements and missed notes tonight. :)

I thought we as Irish people are Europeans?

After listening to the songs yesterday i backed Nikki Kavanagh at 3/1. I know Mairead Farrell is on the judging panel, anyone know who else is??

I'd say all the teenys will use alot of credit voting for the twins.

Mainland Europeans. Common parlance in Ireland and the UK is to refer to anyone on the main landmass as "European". Irish and Brits are just that. It's a psychological thing. Because we're not part of mainland Europe we have a tendency to forget that we're one of them.

    6 regional juries have a vote ...

    http://escdaily.com/articles/10743
the regional juries will have a 67% vote and the public a 33% vote. The regional juries will remain the same as last years which are in alphabetical order Cork, Dublin, Dundalk, Galway, Limerick and Sligo.

    Ah ffs....

You might as well throw in some other knowledgable heavyweights like Amanda Brunker, Shirley Templebar, Richie Kavanagh etc.

haha.. ye I'll tell you when JEward change key

I know Mairead Farrell is on the judging panel
ah you cant be serious.. ? I think the All Ireland Talent Show is insulting having that Brunker yoke being a judge/mentor, but I thought that they would get Logan, Dana and the usual Euro heads to judge the song for us..

The Eurovision is more of a joke than ever now to be honest.. Mooney couldnt even pronounce the names of the writers of Nikki's song, and they are representing Ireland?? Donna McCall is singing for Malta this year.. All these songwriters enter multiple songs for different countries every year.. It should be Irish writer, Irish band, Irish singer.. otherwise what's the bloody point?

Is she definitely on a judging panel? The people who call out the results of each jury are not actually on the panel.

If the judges are not musicians or songwriters of some kind it's a joke.

Regardless of whether you like or loathe Jedward, I think it is beyond pathetic that RTE changed the weighting of the Jury vote from 33% to 66%, utterly pathetic.

They claim to have changed it because Jedward's song was mistakenly temporarily released early. They obviously just want to give the arseholes on the panel the choice of who represents Ireland in the Eurovision rather than the public, which is ridiculous.
Who is on the panel anyhow?
Will it be the usual bunch of cock-knockery insiders who like desperate songs from cheesy tools?
    Is Dana on it?

Possibly - heard they held the usual water cooler meeting in RTE today and have decided to enlist judges who actually have a musical/entertainment background and are using the musical brains / talented judges from the All Ireland Talent Show ??

Who remembers this time last year when we were all getting ready to jet off to Oslo bright and early in the morning with Johnny Logan? Remember we all headed to the airport to meet him? He was heading off to Oslo the morning after the contest. And he reminded us. Repeatedly.

Looking forward to seeing Jedward's performance. I hope they go through. It's all just a bit of fun really, isn't it? (Unless your name is Dana or Johnny Logan. Then it's a life or death situation. Or so it seems.)

I'm conflicted on the Jedward issue.

Edward has a lovely voice, he would be a revelation if we went solo.

John is rubbish though, no talent whatsoever.
