It just says Authentication Failed. I've entered the correct username and password, what could it be?

Clear your browser's cookies, close it then try again.

I've done that, but for some reason it is saying that my username & password don't match - they are fine elsewhere in college. :(

I have it set up to forward the e-mails to my Windows Mail, but I'm trying to set it up so that I can operate the DCU a/c from Windows Mail (thesis time - they are fussy where we send e-mails from)!

I've followed the set-up instructions and it is fine until I try to sign in.

if you're using another mail client and want to use imap/pop3 you'll have to go into the email account from the web and go to settings to activate it.

Yep, have done that too. POP activated.:(

    Enabled POP
    Configured e-mail

    Incoming server: POP3
    Incoming Mail: pop.gmail.com
    Outgoing Mail: smtp.gmail.com
Incoming server: added username & password
    Gives option to logon using:
    Clear text authentication (default)
    Secure password authentication
    Authenticated POP (APOP)
    (I've tried all the above)
Outgoing server: Clicked 'server requires authentication
    Outgoing port: 465
    Incoming port: 995

Settings saved and when I then try to contact the DCU a/c I get the login box - Incorrect password entered. :(

Guess I'd better get on to the college techies.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

i'm not claiming to be a techie or anything, but for reason, if you go to your browsing history and find dcumail, it works :) - a lad in my class discovered this during the mail-outage when it was snowing.

    Eeek! Don't mention snow & mail-outages!
    Thanks Niamhzie.
I didn't have any joy with that approach either BUT - eureka!
I finally found a page on the DCU site that made sense (that site has got to be the least userfriendly site ever created!).
Anyhow - here's the link for those of you who may follow with a similar affliction: http://www.dcu.ie/iss/dcuapps/FAQ/gmail.shtml
& click on 'Why do I need 2 passwords?'

It seems that going into the e-mail via POP we need to use our full e-mail addy as our username, despite using the shortform username that we use when accessing e-mail via the DCU site.

Clear? Of course it is! *totters off to start a PhD in e-mail techy stuff*.

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Ha ha! Last post should read 'techie stuff', but I actually like techy - Dr Freud would be proud.
