i found barbell curls to increase arm size quite well. also triceps are the largest part of your arm so skull crushers / close grip bench press / tricep pull downs etc. are all good

Arms take a long time and I remember reading or being told that to add a solid inch to your arms required adding 14lbs of muscle overall to your frame.

BTW- They'll never be big enough. I once had a dream of hitting a lean 20 inches - never happened, never will. I got as close as about 18.5 when pumped.

Don't overtrain them either - arms will get benefit from heavy lifts like deads, bench, even squats to some extent.

    I agree completely with that.

Someone is about to tell you that reccomending squats for arms is stupid, even though you're not.

OP, what height and weight are you? I'd put money on it that your arms are growing in line with the rest of your body.

I think it's more that some posters on the forum are sick of reading that people should forget about doing direct arm work and should do squats instead if they want bigger arms.

I don't think anyone would dispute that in order to get bigger arms, you have to get bigger everywhere as well. I've read (Stuart McRobert I think) that you need to gain 10 pounds of muscle to put an inch on your arms.

Probably, but I've never read/hear anyone say not to train arms at all. Just to make them a low priority and worry about getting stronger at the big stuff and eat more.

Charles Poloquin says that. Although it seems a little bit generalised. If I'm 6ft 2in and put on 10 pounds of lean mass and someone who is 5ft6 does the same, will we both put an inch on our arms?

Good point.I think its meant to apply to more normal height people 5:10,5:11. though.

On Boards, there are always lots of very interesting approaches to building big arms. ;)

Squats are a waste if all you care about are arms. A very high % of the calories you take in that could be used for arm growth will end up on your legs. If all you care about is arm size, stick to training the upper body.

Good luck with that. I am sure you'll do well in your audition for the new Johnny Bravo.

But you'd have less fanboys and people on the internet would make fun of you because your not 'harder to kill'.;)

Keeping your head down looking at the ground the whole time makes you distinctly easier to kill
