What is the biggest plane that lands at Dublin airport

    Me and my Dad are going to go plane spotting and we want to know when and what are the biggest plane that lands at Dublin airport

    The Air France Cargo 744 that comes in on a saturday would be the biggest visitor to DUB. After that it's mainly 752's with DL and CO and A330's with EI and EY.

    No way, back in the days when the USAF had some input into UN missions. I remember seeing the C5A taking off, full of Irish troops for the Leb. Unless the AN225 flew in you can't beat that. I remember seeing the C5 climbing out. It was impressive.

    I remember watching this being unloaded at Dublin. It was amazing when the nose opened and there was an actual locomotive in there.

    A GM 201 Class loco. Irish Rail decided they wanted the first of the new fleet of loco's to arrive in a blaze of glory(and to begin driver training) so they flew it in from the GM plant in London,Ontario to Dublin in an AN-124. Sadly the rest of the class arrived by ship.

    Check the schedule for US Flights, mostly early morning for arrivals and late morning for departures, and you'll see Aer Lingus A330s, Delta 767s, continental 757s, maybe an Etihad A330

    Also check this sticky: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055357904 for good info on spots around the airport, etc.

    I saw 3 AN-124's lined up in shannon once amazing..


    also the 225 alongside a 124 and a couple of An-12's in Sharjah, now that is a beast of an aircraft

    At taxpayers expense, they wouldn't get away with this now.

    A common misconception - GM actually paid for it as the locomotive would have been delivered late otherwise.

    iwillrocku, danbo's response is the most relevant to your question - all others seem to be suffering from "my sighting is bigger than yours"!

    747 still regularly coming through on saturdays.

    There was talk of AF replacing the 747 with a 777 last year but it's still the 747 atm.

    Theres a huge Singapore Airlines Jumbo that comes in early morn in Dublin Airport, used to work on the ramp up there and saw it come in, a beast

    At taxpayers expense, they wouldn't get away with this now.
    I wouldn't mind at all, money far better spent on that than on something like Ivor Calelley.

    Singapore Cargo ceased service to Dublin a few years ago. This an image from 1997, when they were a relatively new sight here:

    Someone may be able to give an exact arrival time but i've seen it arrive anywhere between 10.30 and 13.00 on a Saturday.

    The flight number is AFR6807. Check this link early on Saturday and if the flight is airborne from Chicago it will provide a pretty accurate ETA. Note that occasionally, if weather or other factors so dictate, the flight routes directly to Paris, omitting the Dublin stop.

    One of the reasons the Singapore cargo flights stopped was because on of the major American MNC's stopped production of a number of their products here in Ireland that used a very large amount of parts manufactured in Singapore.There was a weekly delivery of various machine parts and product parts that arrived in every Sunday ,then every other Sunday until they moved production to the far east.

    Looking at the Air France Cargo website (http://www.af-klm.com/cargo), the schedule is:

    Depart Chicago ORD 20:00
    Arrive Dublin 09:00

    Depart Dublin 11:00
    Arrive Paris CDG 13:40

    Like all things with cargo services, that can change!

    It's an impressive thing to see,especially as the standard fare at DUB is A330/757/737/A320 etc. I've seen it land a few times and never fail to be in awe of it. Same for take off too,the sound of her 4 engines winding up as she begins her roll is quite something.

    Aer Lingus used to have 3 of them (2 in regular service) operating on transatlantic routes. Unfortunately they cost much more to operate than the Airbus 330 that replaced them.

    The last Aer Lingus 747 left Dublin Airport in October 1995.

    They are sadly missed.

    AFAIK we haven't the length on runway 28/10 to allow a fully fueled 747 to take off. In the old days when EI had them the Shannon stopover was mandatory so they left DUB lightly fueled and took on a full fuel load in SNN. The 744 that AF use for Cargo arrives in light on fuel and only needs a small top-up for the short hop to CDG. Same goes for 777's as i understand it.

    The SNN stopover was modified in the early 1990s and Aer Lingus 747s then operated non-stop from Dublin to New York on at least some services. This was do-able for the 747-100 but then the aircraft wouldn't have been at max take-off weight for this relatively near transatlantic destination.

    All I had heard is that they were planning on building a new parallel runway, however that's been cancelled for the time being A.F.A.I.K.

    Also there simply is not enough demand on any routes to justify the use of a 747, they struggle to get enough people to make the 757's viable on many routes

    Best bet for a 747 is the aforementioned AF cargo. Other than that it'd be diversions when a major hub closes,eg. Heathrow last December,which resulted in 2 BA 747's parked up in DUB.

    Doubt it tbh. Your best bet if you want to see 747's(and any other heavies) would be to do a day trip to LHR,a multitude of aircraft type and liveries every day.

    Air France Cargo 747s already do land in Dublin most Saturdays.

    but also in the next 5-7 years our population will drop by at least half a million, we will have lest disposable income for holidays and the tourists will not come due to the high costs, therefore I think what you hope for is really going to show a decline in passenger numbers

    How many people are on the dole ques each week, how many graduates are lucky to be stacking shelves or working in McDs, how many qualified skilled construction works are there in this country who are no longer needed?

    There is your half million right there that have no future here for at least 10 years. As a former skilled worker myself and now stuck in a low paid job I'm forced to do if I want to just get by I want to leave and get the best quality of life I know I can get else where. Not a hope here anymore.

    Put it this way.

    As already mentioned there is a Air France Cargo 747 that lands in Dublin most Saturdays.

    During the snow period in November/December there was a couple of BA 747's that had diverted to Dublin along with a 777 and a Virgin A340-600.

    Again as pointed out by most people on this thread, it is very unlikely that there would ever be a passenger service that will be flying from Dublin to such and such place in the forthcoming future. In fact leaving diversions aside the next time one could possible appear is if Air Force One was to visit here. (but that's not on the books for anytime soon as far as i know)

    The only big planes that are common to see at Dublin Airport at the A330 and 767 (and maybe the odd MD DC-10).

    Aer Lingus used to fly there own 747's on transatlantic for over 20 years up until 1995 when there were phased out in favor of the A330.

    If you are really desperate to see such big aircraft then you only options are to head over to a UK airport such as Manchester or Hethrow.

    I think everything I and other posters have said has answered your question tbh.

    150,000 Irish people have already gone in the past 2 years, estimates of 50-70,000 more this year, which I think is conservative, not much hope of getting out of the mess we are in any-time soon, therefore not many reasons to stay.

    Add to that, large numbers of mainly eastern Europeans who arrived during the boom are leaving to return to their now strong economies. These were the people who travelled regularly on cheap Ryanair flights back home, when they live at home there is no need for the flights.

    passenger numbers in DUB have dropped dramatically and will certainly continue to drop, carriers are using smaller aircraft now, Aer Lingus now prefer the A320 to the A321 and are rumoured to be looking at the even smaller Embraer regional jets

    I'd have thought an India - Dublin - New York flight(if this came about) would use one of their 772's or 773's. It would probably be able to make the Dub-NYC leg without being too heavy to prohibit taking off from Dublin.

    I flew in an AL 747 from Dublin to Gran Canaria ( long time ago 1986 I think ) and another time in one to one of the greek Islands. ( around 1994)
    Both would have been charter flights I imagine to JWT or something.
    I never knew the runway was to short for them to take off fully laden.
    When I worked in AL you'd see the odd one being serviced by the Team AL guy's the odd time. Singapore airlines afair.

    They would only use DUB for the A330's and 744's, this would only be until those aircraft are replaced with the 787.

    The 777's currently fly non-stop. Its about 16 hours I think

    Slightly OT but if iwillrocku fancies a spin to LHR in May you might get to see Airforce One there. Obama is arriving there on May 24th for a 3 day visit. One of the VH-60N Whitehawks will be on hand i'd imagine too to ferry the President to London.
