Got kind of overlooked until now, what with the general election; nevertheless, it begins.

Very disappointing that Boards haven't set up a poll for it like they have with the General Election.

Aaron Heffernan's posters are near-perfect pastiches. Yes We Can.

After Geodude's great campaign last year, I hear that another pokémon might be going for ents....

Well facebook appears to have exploded with it fairly quickly. Sweet Caroline for welfare - wtf? Someone with sweets on their picture talking about healthy eating? Nice to see the auld campaign hypocrisy still in fashion.

It appears he is filling the quotas this year for both the token "ethnic" candidate and the self-professed "joke" candidate.

THe idea was to challenge the hypocrisy you speak of and to make student's aware that living on sweets and junk food is not a sustainable lifestyle and I myself want to change my eating habits as part of the campiagn.

I'm not sure which of the posters outside LG12 I found more horrifying... the election ones or the Kings of Leon tribute band *shudder*.

So you are challenging your own hypocrisy by running a campaign of awareness that you are aware of your hypocrisy by running a....................:confused::confused:

    Kinda reminds me of this

I predict a turnout of 15% (Pretty optimistic really). I also predict that 90% of the candidates will use their success as a launching pad for national politics or for the trade union movement.

    May the greatest hack win.

The Welfare lady who's using the Mr Men theme gets my vote. 4 year studying social work + vice-president of VDP = qualified.

Completely indifferent to whoever's running for the other positions.

Policies and experience are great, but I'm making quiet scribbles in red biro beside the names of everyone who tags Trinity Cat in their campaign photos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭Lawliet

I see the Trinity cat suffered the indignity of being forced to pose with an ents campaign poster. He has been besmirched! I will not support this besmirchment!

Sick of it already to be honest. around 6 people campaigning tried to speak in one of my lectures the other day, glad they got told to shove off really.:p You can't sit down anywhere on campus without someone shoving a leaflet at you every 5 seconds!

Who is the communications officer? He/she didn't communicate with me once!

In all seriousness, what do they do?

That girl ents candidate who's clearly going to win because she has all the ents hacks changing their facebook middle name for her looks like an absolutely awful candidate.

"my policies are that I'm an ents hack".

The other bloke looks alright but he's never gonna win.

I'll be voting for Aaron Heffernan, and/or Graveler.

    Treebeard for Ents?

How do you know what the "Ents hacks" middle names on Facebook are unless you're either friends with them (without actually being their friend it would seem) or you're stalking them?

You don't actually have to be friends with someone to see what their name is. If they make post on a group page you're a member of, on a mutual friend's wall or tag your friends, it's easy enough to see that they have "xForEnts" stuck in their name, absolutely no stalking required.

I think I'm gonna make my first business venture be about 200 big, bright, orange stickers with "PLEASE DON'T CANVASS ME" on them so you can walk through college in peace.

I feel kind of bad for them, they want to win and have to do it, but jesus, after only a few days it's already plague like. The Arts Block at lunchtime is a minefield.

That Ents flashmob is the lamest thing I've ever seen. Ugh. Why people should vote for an Ents officer simply because she's the current Ents officer's ex-girlfriend I don't understand.

So, we have an SU hack for President and an Ents hack for Ents. Next year should be awesome.
I used to wonder why so many of our ents and class rep events were in Andrews Lane and then I realised Elaine works there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭carlowboy

I really like the look of the ginger chap running for Communications. Costello for Communications has a certain ring to it. Plus the other candidate doesn't know what she's talking about.

Who's the shoe-in for president? I can only assume it's not Seb or Aaron.

What do you mean about Elaine/Andrew's Lane? There's always been Ents nights in Andrews Lane, because few proper Dublin promoters like it, so it's empty all week, and therefore cheap to run shit nights in.

They're all a pain in the arse, I think we can agree on that. But in fairness to the candidates at least read the manifesto before attacking them - nowhere on Elaine's manifesto does it say - "Elect me, I'm Genockey's girlfriend".

Seb Le Coq's (moment for a giggle) manifesto on the other hand does say that the SU should give money to students who need it - welfare loan anyone?

Her info on her facebook campaign page is:
Elaine has worked directly with the last four Ents Officers, gaining a good insight into the roles and responsibilities
of the position. She works with the Ents Crew and helps ensure all Trinity Ents events run successfully. Elaine has
worked with class reps all year, organizing the best class parties.

Elaine ran the now-infamous DUSSC ski trip to L2A in January, runs all of DUSSC’s nights out and fundraisers, as
well as working with other Sports Clubs, including Surf, Hockey, GAA, American Football, Waterpolo and many
more, bringing the Sports Clubs together off the field, as well as on it.

Elaine headed the promotional team for Trinity Singers, selling out their bi-annual concerts in record time. She
also helped run their social events and liaised with other societies on behalf of Trinity Singers.

Elaine is involved in Messy @ the Mezz on Tuesdays, Vogue @ ALT on Wednesdays and 2-for-1 Fridays @ Citibar.
She has also worked in the past with Spy, the Button Factory, Crawdaddy, the Palace, the Village, Tripod, Alchemy, D:Two, the Academy, Basebar and many more. Through this, Elaine
has gained huge experience in nightclub promotion and worked with many different promoters and companies.

AKA: Elect me, I've been an Ents hack since first year.

Not really the credentials I'd want in an Ents officer. I'd prefer someone with experience outside being in the Ents crew since 1st year.

(Anyone about to point out that she works in Andrew's Lane etc, helping run Ents nights in Andrew's Lane etc is not working in Andrew's Lane)

God forbid a candidate who knows exactly how to do the job they're running for gets elected to that job, eh?

    Bring back Nick Longworth!

God forbid a candidate who knows exactly how to do the job they're running for gets elected to that job, eh?

By that logic we should re-elect Fianna Fáil.

Someone who has experience in the real world of this sort of thing would do thousands of times better than someone who wants to get elected because they've worn Ents t-shirts for 3 years.

Normal promoters in Dublin run events starting with nothing, and make money. I really don't understand where the Ents budget goes, because Ents nights generally aren't cheaper for the punter than ordinary student nights, and they definitely don't spend as much on DJs etc. Get someone who's used to running good nights for free, give them the massive Ents budget, and they'll do amazing things. Not one of the same people that have systematically turned Ents into a farce over the last however many years.

If you actually think that Darragh Genockey has done a bad job as Ents Officer there's really no point in me continuing to debate with you. Apologies.

I think he has done an ok job as Ents Officer, and met the status quo. So, so much more could be done though, but never will be.

What do you think he has done well as Ents Officer?

I had heard that Elaine had(has?) worked as a promoter for ALT, if that's incorrect then my apologies.

I think Genockey has done a shít job as ents officer.
As "Get people into the same clubs for no cheaper than non-ents clubs, with drinks specials no cheaper than non-ents clubs" he's been fantastic.

But I figured Entertainment Officer might entail a bit more than getting people drunk for the same price they would if he didn't exist.

    Guess I was wrong^^

@Whoever asked who the shoe-in hack was, it's Bartlett. Have you not seen how scared he's been running since Heffernan didn't immediately cancel his candidacy?

He and his entourage came into goldsmith yesterday, and it was brilliant! It also stands as the only interruption that didn't annoy and bore me, he's got my vote!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 560 ✭✭✭Jehuty42

Campaigners interrupting lectures should be thrown out of college, tbh. Is this actually happening, interrupted lectures?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭Lawliet

Well they're not so much interrupting the lectures in my case, so much as delaying it for five to ten minutes. Although some of them come in in groups a few minutes before a lecture ends and stand around whispering to each other, which is incredibly distracting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,361 ✭✭✭bythewoods

Here, I'd vote the COC guy purely because that Elaine wan seems like an absolute bitch. Plus he made mention of €4 naggins.
