I'm not sure if it's just me or does anyone else get like this? Anyway when I'm in the gym working out and I see someone my own age, who is more built than me I get very annoyed. I keep thinking I will never look like that. Especially when the person is next to me and facing the mirror I compare myself to them. Its really annoying and gets me down. Sometimes I wish I started working out when I was younger!

I know that feeling, and everyone in my gym is bigger and in better shape...everyone...but its a frame of mind i think and my solution is just put the head down and get on with it, for example if im in that negative frame of mind nothing will get me out of it, like ive built my squat up to 140Kg for 6 which i'm quite proud of..but in a negative state im under the impression any guy can walk of the street and squat 140...can they?, i dont know but in that frame of mind these thoughts can get ya;), i'd say just get stuck in and concentrate on how you look..not anyone else!!

It's a funny thing that. I think people who do that, will always do that, no matter how far they get. I know guys who are bigger/stronger than 99% of the population but when they see someone stronger than them at something they'll be like 'oh god why must I be so small and weak...'
    Manorexia as the experts say.

not everyone is the same-andy bolton superhuman freak and deadlift recordholder squated more than most ever will the 1st time he ever entered a gym.
In the real world everythings relative-a guy acting all badass asked me in a condesending tone how long I had been training (yrs and yrs btw, mostly poorly) I said a few years days later he got very snotty when I was going full squat with what he 1/4 squatted.
at the end of the day if youre stronger now than you were previously is that not a good thing and enough to make you think youre doing good?

Comparing yourself to someone else, whether it be career, car or physique is not uncommon. BUT, it's flawed because we all want different things from our life's. Your goals may be very different from the person your currently jealous of.

Ultimatley you should only compare yourself to yourself. Ask your self what you want and most importantly WRITE IT DOWN! A written goal is real and tangible and placed on your fridge is something you will be able to focus on every day. If you want to get bigger then set goals for lifting more weight (realsitic amounts) incrementally over time and target dates for achieveing it. set goals for your diet and nutrition cycles every day and set rewards for when goals are met once a week or month (try to avoid food!)

It's a big topic so read up on it but good motivation and goal setting is just as important as eating right and doing the exercise. It's the compass and map of where your going, how your going to get there and what happens after. So many people skip this step and head off to the weights without really pausing to sharpen their blades first....

Sorry for sounding like a douche but youl never get anywhere feeling sorry for yourself. If your hungry and you want it bad youl do whatever it takes no matter what.Quit worrying about the past and worry about the now and what you can be in the future. If you really want it you wont let nothing stop you. Rest easy. They sure as hell can't.

id say im weaker than 99% of the serious/ semi-serious guys of my age group in westwood

a great remedy for this was joining Trinity College gym where lots of the lads are super-skinny 19 year olds!:)

But seriously, it can make you feel weak seeing loads of stronger/ bigger guys in the gym. But I always remind myself that the free-weights area of a gym isn't representative of the whole population. The strong/ muscular guys are most likely to be found guess where???? The GYM!

Also, everyone has to start somewhere. I get motivation from knowing that I'm slightly bigger and stronger than I was 4 months ago, even if I'm still relatively weak compared to others.

Would it not motivate you more?

That's what it does for me anyway. If I see someone who is better than me, at anything, then I want to be better than them and I'll work until I am the best I can be.

makes me strive to be bigger/stronger, thinking i could be in the same shape as them in a years time. Noone started off big, they all started where you are budweiser90 looking up to bigger lads in the gym ;)

i'm guessing by your name that you're born in 1990 ?? maybe not. if you are - then take a look at richie gray - scottish second row. he's 21, 6 foot 8 and 20 stone... so basically everyone is different. you might never be like the guy beside you - try not to compare yourself to some genetic freak though! compare yourself to the average lad on the street and you're probably doing fairly well.

That actually motivates me more.I rarely see someone my age bigger than me but I work out in a tiny gym.Seeing someone bigger and stronger than me regardless of age is always motivating!

I sometimes feel like this if I see somebody wearing the same top (or something) as me, and I might think inwardly how it looks better on them than on me.

I always check out other peoples squat form and always believe they have better form then me! I got mine checked and its fine yet I still believe everyone else's is better!
