You're ridiculously fussy and unreasonable. I was expecting a kip, but it's a perfectly nice, bright, clean house. Lovely kitchen and FOUR bathrooms, one for almost every single tenant? The decor is a little old-fashioned, but that's about it. If you think that place is crap for 850 a month, you have issues tbh. I'm actually tempted to move to Galway and rent it.

I said about three times in this thread that I don't think this house is too expensive! I just think its ridiculous to call it "modern"!
    Yes, I have issues..

Holy Sh1t. This is a hallway with a bed in it! Most depressing part has to be the little flap of plywood you prop up to eat your dinner off. There's rabbits in animal testing facilities with nicer digs than this

I just imagined old lonely alcoholic leading there miserable life and this made me sad.. :( It's like in prison!

Jesus wept! How are these landlords allowed to get away with this crap? Im fairly sure there is some upcoming legislation coming in soon to put an end to this. Dont fret though, as most of the country's TD's are landlords (like ex-minister Frank "forty houses" Fahy, if the laws are indeed passed, theyy will either be watered down or not enforced or both. It would put a Central American Banana Republic to shame.

A little more dust and damp patches and it is like something from a Charles Dickens story.

Bedsits are to be banned by 2013. Landlords want the ban reversed.

The worst thing is that many of these rat holes are paid for by tax payer via the Social welfare rent allowance. (Anecdotal I know)

Yep, thats where your hard earned money is going to, Sleezy, money grabbing slum barrons.

Fúck, it drives me daft thinking about the corrupt, inbred gombeem cúnts that govern us all. Then again, we get the politicians we deserve :(. IE; "Ah sure didnt I know your father and you got me the planning for my "Dallas style" mansions in most scenic parts of the country. Oh, sure dont forget to get me daughter her medical card and my pension even though I have a 300 acre farm and already get a huge amount of free money from the EU and the gubberment.

    Sorry, rant over.

Quality is only part of the rent figure. Social welfare sets a floor for rent everywhere in the country. It is unusual to find even a mud hut hovel for less than the local rent supplement.

I moved to the north west a few years ago and the first thing that struck me when i was looking for a place, every house for rent didnt go below the SW rent alowance.

Put simply, the SW rent allowance is a subsidy or a fancy dole payment for middle class professionals who invested in property/families homes. Get rid of the rent allowance and every TD in the country will be tormented by those who speculated on property but wont accept the fact that "your investment may rise or fall. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future performance" What made this situation worse, the speculation on property was encouraged by the government of the day (many of whom personally benefited from it).
All this, in turn, led to the artificial inflation in housing costs and therefore the cost of living. This, in turn, led to the loss of competitiveness that a small, open economy needs to succeed.
On a human level, this madness has left a generation living in squalid and or unsuitable homes, many thousands having to emigrate to earn a living, all this while those bankers, civil servants and TD's swaddle off into the sunset, pockets bulging with their ill gotten gains.

Right, thats all. Ill get so wound up that I wont sleep.

Yeah, it's impossible to find one bedroom apartment (no matter what quality) for less then 600€ (in Galway), when you can find 3 or 4 bed. for 700€.
    Something is not right.

I will lay a bet that they meant "monthly" not weekly ;) But you're right, I pay over the odds on my room in a 3 bed flat in Harold's Cross now, for €365 a month you can get a nice room in a shared house with split bills. It's just ridiculous, who is still paying for these places?

Lol it states "Would suit one person" It would hardly suit a super midget, that's much smaller than a normal midget. Like what the foook? I dispise landlords. Banging on the door if you are a day late, but if stuff breaks, they take their time getting it fixed or replaced. I bought my own bed and mattress in my current house. Springs in the mattress were cutting my legs and the greedy príck wouldn't replace it. He would replace the bed but after 3 weeks of phone calls I got my own.

surely to beelzebub a hob under a countertop like that is a firehazard? You wouldn't even need a frickin chip pan, a moments inattention (perhaps a pulled muscle in your calf from squatting down to fry your breakfast egg) could basically mean plasterboard/countertop on fire. Landlords make me so, so angry at times.

I kind of think it's "funny" that people have the brass neck to advertise these things.

Who would anyone live in a place rented out by a moron who didn't know the difference between monthly and weekly :D

I used to live down the road from that place. TBH the place I was in wasn't much better :(

Does the child come with the house? Or is she going to the dump too?

And can it really be called a house if there's just a manky couch to sleep on.
