Definitely. It's like playing guitar for simpletons.

There is nothing cooler than a guy that plays the tin whistle. Really, that's the way to go and if you can play that then you can play the flute and then your made.

    You play the tin whistle
    You play the flute
    You get the girl
    You got it made

Any monkey could play like Adam Clayton. An average bass player would be a better musician than most guitarists.

    Yeah, sorry to the bassists reading but;

    Bass. Obviously.

But you have to be playing in a band situation man. You can't just pick up a bass, stand there on your own and go 'bum bum bum bumbladum dum bum badumblum' and expect it to sound cool. It won't. It will sound a little like you are playing 'bum bum bum bumbladum dum bum badumblum'.

To be cool? Any number of easy instruments.

But if you're that guy who plays guitars at parties, you're a cúnt.

I always meant to ask Kold. Whatchaplay? In Koldville land what instrument is ok to play at a party?

How about the theremin? Or better yet a glockenspiel? Hipster kitty enough for you?

A little bit of guitar that nobody will ever get to hear. I'm not very good, as for instruments at a party, well I guess if there's a band playing that's one thing but showing off by playing Oasis is cringeworthy stuff.

only if you play it to try to pick up the women and look cool;)

if your class and your better than the band then it's good - it's like having a band at a house party...

Turntables. Play someone elses records and claim them as your own.

What if you're having a party with a load of musicians, is it allowed then?

Bass is not easy. Easy to pick up and look like you can play but to "play" bass- not easy

Actually, you're completely wrong. Fair nuff you can pick up a bass and make an attempt at hammering away on it. But, it won't sound good.

There are and have been many excellent solo bassists. Perhaps the most famous of which is Jaco Pastorius.

Playing bass well requires good timing, rhythm, feel and knowing when to take a step back for the song. Go to a bar or club with music playing and watch what people are dancing to. Most times (if they're any way co-ordinated) they're dancing to the bass in the song.

OP, if you want an easy instrument get a triangle.

Also I'll just leave this here... a song everyone knows for it's bassline.

If you want to be cool - you have to play guitar. Well. And that's not easy. Even bass isn't easy. There is no easy way. If it's easy it's not cool. Chicks don't like guys who just play the tambourine.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,740 ✭✭✭Asphyxia

Bass isn't as easy it's said to be! It's definitely easier than the guitar but you still need to put in the work like any instrument :D

Just pick an instrument that appeals to you and learn! It takes time but you'll get it if you stick at it.

There's no short cuts unless you pick up the triangle!

not if you do it right.....................but yeah it's easier than guitar. slightly. I dunno really though, because I learned to play a guitar waaaaaaaaay before I picked up a bass. It was really only a case of getting used to the heavier strings, but IDK how they'd compare for someone completely starting off

Cymbals. You'll display the intensity and power of a drummer with no talent required.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,758 ✭✭✭✭TeddyTedson

Taking up an instrument that people think is cool is obviously a stupid idea but the Cajon might work for you if you find drums too hard. You should stick with the drums though if you liked them enough to take them up in the first place, you will get better with a little practice every day. You can see great lessons on youtube.
As for the guitar being cool, I think it depends on the person who is playing. People can make a guitar the most badass instrument on the planet or the most cringe worthy thing I've ever seen.
Have a look at the Cajon. I'm going to get one. You can get good ones for around €120.

Does it work the other way too? If so, I'm well in there. A girl who knows her way round a flute's gotta be worth something, right?.
