Time to rebel - the latest interest rate hikes from PermanentTSB & Ulster Bank are the straw that broke the camels back. Let's hit them where it hurts - in their profits!

Doesn't matter whether the hikes affect you or not - its the principal here. If we just roll over and let them do it the other banks will feel they can follow their lead.

So - if you have a savings account in Permanent TSB or Ulster Bank - take your money out and put it in the Post Office, the Credit Union, and on-line bank - anywhere but in an Irish Bank!!!

And if you have a credit card - change it to MBNA, Tesco again anywhere except and Irish Bank. And make sure you tell them why you're doing it.

Let them know they've screwed us all for long enough and now we're drawing a line in the sand.

Up the rebellion - pass the word on!

SCREW THE BANKS, WHO ARE SCREWING YOU!

Ulster Bank is owned by Royal Bank of Scotland.
Wouldn't consider it an Irish bank, HQ is in Belfast

I was a few days late paying them last month & the amount of phonecalls I got was fcuking ridiculous. Keep in mind that anytime there's anything on the card it's usually cleared pronto & some fcuking thick accented prick rings me up demanding to know why payment hadn't been made. I could barely understand a word he was saying so the more I asked him to repeat himself the more he whispered into the phone.
    That made me mad :mad::mad::mad:

Good luck to you if you think anybody is going to follow you in your protest. The Irish love rolling around in abuse, doing nothing about it but moan. Move to iceland or greece where the citizens do something productive as a whole.

I moved my savings to Rabobank i think in 2008. Never trust an Irish bank considering they all bankrupted themselves over the last few years.

On PTSB, I was once asked for a 'financial review'(its quite common with them on the most trivial matter') a simple blunt no aka feck right off suffices.

This is a bit like saying Stalin was better than Hitler.

MBNA are a truly evil organisation. Banking globalisation at its very worst.

Do some research on them on this forum and some Googling of this organisation and it's parent company the Bank of America.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7832484.stm

At least RaboBank has some ethics.

The irish government effectively owns the irish banks, so the best thing to do if you have savings is to move them to a uk or foreign based bank .

Next thing is the irish government will be insisting the banks write have their literature in the irish bl##dy language, like the rest of the semi states + government, and the next thing is there will be a run on them + they will go bust. Do not trust the Irish government. They have changed rules + shafted too many people ; the little section 23 investor (who bought a buy-to-let for his pension) last week.

im with the opening poster on this. i closed my business account. got rid of my credit card machine. all my customers use cash now and when i tell them why they are very supportive.

its almost as if the customers want to make a protest against the bank.

i also closed my personal account with BOI and transferred it to another bank.
BOI raised theyre fees before christmas. i have had enough with them. i left.

i tell ya, it may only be a small thing but i felt great about it. dont knock it. and i reckon there is lots of people that feel the same. regardless of what anyone thinks, i have chosen my own actions and i doubt im alone with this.

    Okay, tell me.

You think after putting in the tens of billions of euros that the government and the EU are just going to let them fail? More money will be poured into them if your suggestions are followed and guess who will be footing the bill?

Leave ulster bank and put your money in a foreign bank? Ulster bank happens to be a foreign bank. No bank charges? So many people are leaving BOI because of the fees, which is fair enough, at least they have a valid point. Revenge isn't going to improve your livlihood... It's a silly idea.

Ulster Bank and PTSB are first to move their rates because they are not in the bank guarantee. Every other bank would have their rates as high as them if they could, but the government are telling them to keep rates low in return for capital.

Every SVR will be 5%+ soon, so if your thanking your lucky stars your not with PTSB or UB, your in for a huge shock sooner or later.

Did either of these banks get money from the bailout?? I dont think they did (but I'm open to correction...)

If not, why the anger against them? They are entitled to make whatever offering they choose to the market and you are entitled to change your bank.... but I'm not sure where the whole revenge stuff comes in...

    .

You are right, they did not get any money. Which is why, imo, they are the best bank in Ireland. Was with BOI for years but changed to PTSB cuz BOI screwed me over. Am very happy with PTSB, never had any problems, and they constantly pay my bills with money i don't have in my account. Granted, i get charged, but BOI never done anything like that for me. I'll stick with them.

Brilliant idea. I have copied this to my FB profile. Hope you dont mind. Just spreading it around. Truly if we all got together and did something like this it could make a difference. In general we are fairly powerless to do anything about what has happened to our country but this is doable on a large scale and could have major impact if done by all mortgage holders. We cant continue to let them take take take from us. The money is probably safer in the PO anyway.

If interest rates rise won't you lose out on interest in savings? You're right to be mad though; it's not as if interest rates have fluctuated before.

A fuking interest hike OP? The banks are losing tonnes of money on tracker interest rates.. The amount of money people are saving in the country from that alone is huge. How much do you owe them? Cause it would have to be alot to even worry about interest.

And I have to laugh at "move your savings".. Why? They're guaranteed. Irish banks are the best place to have your savings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,739 ✭✭✭johnmcdnl

Why would I want to get even with the banks? Since the start of this recession my rent, food costs and transport has decreased (except dublin bus). And those smug pricks using property as investment have disappeared.
A bust after a boom is necessary to make spending more realistic.
