'Opinions' on my new diet

I drastically changed by diet about 2 weeks ago after being sick of being overweight (not hugely mind you)

I started reading a Patrick Holford Book - Low GL Diet Bible and found it very interesting and put it to work straight away. I've also scoured this forum and others and found some great info re low-carbing and low GL diets.

This was my diet, say a month ago:
Breakfast 9am : White Scone, Butter, Jam
    Tea x 2

    Mid Morning 11am: Chocolate, Tea x 2

Lunch 12.30pm: Large White Baguette/Panini with Chicken, cheese & Coleslaw, another choc bar

Dinner 7pm: Chilli con carne w/white rice, Or Chicken with Potato Gratin, Or Spag Bol, or Lasagne etc

9pm I used to get the munchies - so Toast and Jam and maybe 3/4 Biscuits

Drank 8-10 alcoholic drinks at wkend - Bulmers or Vodka w/red bull etc
Always got a take away on Sunday - either Dominos Pizza or Chinese
    and a can of coke

Always drank 2ltrs of water per day

That was my diet in a nutshell, always tired and cranky and irritable. Im 5 Foot 4 and 11st 4 and Female.

    My Diet now:

Breakfast 9am: Porridge w/Flax Seeds, Skimmed Milk and handful of Berries, Tea x1

    Snack 11am: Apple, Tea

Lunch 12.30pm: Chicken Stirfry & Veg with v small amount of brown rice, or Brown roll with Tuna Cheese and Lettuce, Fat free Yoghurt, Plum

Snack 3pm: 2 Oatcakes w/hummous, or a carrott with Hummous

Dinner 7pm: Breaded cod with half a plate of Veg & Cauliflower Mash (Some potato in this) or 3 Egg & Ham Muffins, or Chicken Stir fry with Brown Rice

Snack 9pm: Either oat cakes, a carrot

Completely eliminated chocolate, sweets, take aways, cordials, fizzy drinks, white bread/rice/pasta

Cut down on drinks, and when drinking I have Bulmers Light or Vodka & soda & Lime
Running on Treadmill for 20 mins, walking for 10 mins x 3 times per week.

2 ltrs of water per day

Im shocked at myself I have kept with this plan and very happy with myself, I feeeeel much better - BUT i've not lost anything at all. Stayed the exact same weight!
Is there anything I am doing wrong !?

    How big's the brown roll?

Do you really need those three snacks a day? Apple and tea at 11 fair enough, but those oatcakes do add up.

It's good to give the old digestive system a break, eating 6 meals a day isn't necessary if you are eating filling food at mealtimes. Chuck an egg in with brekkie.

Diet othewise is a tad low in good fats, chuck in the odd bit of avocado, salmon, real butter or olive oil. Sneak a tbsp of sour cream into that mash, makes not snacking after dinner so much easier and you'll feel like you're eating the same amount of food.

Important point raised here imo. I used to think that i needed to eat5-6 smaller meals a day because i was always on the go. When i got into a habit of eating 3 times a day, it worked great. All eating 6 times a day did for me was make me hungry when i really wasn't. I actually look forward to siting down to decent meals whereas before i kinda quickly shoved food back on the go. May not be the case for you though

The 5 or 6 meals a day thing didn't work for me either. Ended up thinking about food all the time. And was always hungry after eating an absolutely tiny meal:( Found it much more satisfying to eat a decent size meal a few times a day

Id have the 9pm snack prob 4 nights out of 7, but I agree the oatcakes do add up, and they are bloody addictive! Im not purposely eating 6 meals a day either though, im recognising the signs when i reach for a bar or the times when I do -and ibefore the sugar cravings set in im replacing it with fruit/oatcakes/a carrot

El Dangeroso - I do use Olive Oil and butter, Avocado is a no no, just cant eat it. As for fish I dont know what or where to buy decent fish, Ive only ever eaten breaded cod and bunged it in the oven. I wouldn't be a huge fish lover so I'd need something mild-tasting

Suppose one of my issues is, since imo i'v changed my diet considerably - why haven't I lost 1 pound?!! Really thought I would be down at least 3-4 lbs after 2.5 weeks :(

heres my daily diet , im a country boy so my tastes are a tad conservative , no cafe lattes for me

breakfast = 7 . 45 am = muesli ( swiss style , bought in lidl ) + two slices of home made brown bread , gave up eating toast

lunch = 1. 30 pm = potatoes , veg varies from day to day carrotts , cabbage , green beans , peas , brocoli etc , meat = pork chops on one or two days per week , fish on a friday , beef on a sunday and chicken makes up the other days , eat around five biscuits with a cup of tea after dinner but most of em are plain rich tea :D

evening tea at 6 . 30 pm = ham and chees sandwich + more home made brown bread , my mom makes thee best brown bread in the country and insists on leaving a few cakes with me each week :)

i only eat three times in the whole day but they are big meals , i dont drink alcohol anymore because im on painkillers all the time ( suffer from chronic pain having had a bad accident over three years ago ) and they dont go down at all well with alcohol , ive given up eating chips and burgers ( dont like them anymore anyway ) and only get a chineese thee odd weekend , only eat ice cream once a week aswell

    @irishh_bob

Is that not too much carbs? (I'm new to this whole thinking of food in terms of nutritional value)
