Cling film or tin foil?

In primary school, what did you use to wrap/cover your lunch?

Obviously both have benefits, cling film keeping the package air-tight and bread fresh, and tin foil being able to double as a missile and/or football when you're finished with it.

Was there a social hierarchy spawned from, or perhaps just illustrated by, this dichotomy? It's a fact that cling film is not as cool as tin foil, so this must surely have been a factor in determining popularity or social standing.

So, which did you use? And how did it affect your life? I'm thinking of doing a longitudintal study to get to the bottom of this issue. Feel free to share any stories that you feel may be relevant.

Where is the option for both?

I always instinctively use tin foil. For the first time in my life, I'm now stopping to ponder.

Sammiches DO NOT stay fresh and they get warm unless they're wrapped in tin foil.

I tried chasing the dragon on cling film one time, but it ended a molten mess.

That said, I can chew cling-film without causing an electric shock to my fillings.

    Pros and cons.

    tinfoil.

I hate cling film near food. I always felt tinfoil was fresher.

    In school, it was cling-film.

Now I spoil myself with tinfoil. Mainly because cling film annoys me! That and im cooler now

We got milk and sandwiches in primary school. And once a week... buns!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,198 ✭✭✭strokemyclover

Mainly tin foil but cling film had its advantages....when sandwiches were left under the desk over a weekend you could see a rainbow of mould explode as you threw the scrunched up sandwich at someone's head.

I was a very bored student at Trinity! :(

    Tinfoil.

I had a big time nostalgia trip when I came home recently. I realised that I'll NEVER taste a taste like my lunch roll again. Because it has to sit in your bag for a couple of hours and ferment. Even if I put a roll in a bag and left it now, it still wouldn't be the same. It wouldn't be infused with the smell of my books and school and SLIGHTLY squished from being picked up and thrown down every few minutes.

    Sigh.

My legend ma used to get up and make us fresh rolls in the oven in the morning. Same lunch every day:

Crusty roll loaded with ham and butter.
    Club Milk
    Piece of fruit.
Euro for a can of coke + crisps/chocolate bar.

    F*ucking Delish wha.

Tinfoil all the way. I have wasted too many precious minutes trying to unravel cling film, it drives me nuts when people don't unwrap it properly and you have to go searching for the start and unravel it around and around until it is an even sheet again. :o

cling film hats get too messy after a while.

    tin foil all the way.

Tin foil was the way to go, you could also put it on your head when needed to stop 'them' from reading your mind.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,080 ✭✭✭McChubbin

Use tin foil. Then when it rains, you can craft a dainty hat out of it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,191 ✭✭✭✭Latchy

Always used aluminium foil roll on moi sammichjas and use to keep salads and just opened packets of food , like cheese and bacon ' fresh' .

Amigo apple juice, the nicest drink EVAR!

Also, clearly sandwiches go in a sandwich bag. The clue's in the name.

Only realised when shopping for my own place though that tin foil is frickin' expensive! Don't use it much any more really, cling film's better, but a lunch-box's the best ;)

    Tin foil.

When you finished lunch you can then make a ball out of it and hook it around the classroom.

    Tupperware.

    There, I've said it.

Cling film just makes your food all mushy , after you've managed to prise it off .Foil is so fresh and even better if put into lunch or tupperware box

Funnily enough, when I were a nipper (last century, and over in Blighty) having school dinner was a sign of poverty. You'd have to be poor to suffer what they served up though but.

plastic bag normally or lunch box if I was lucky! There were 5 of us vying for 3 or 4 lunch boxes.
