    Hi Guys,
As the title says im new to all this lark.I suppose some stats to start.Im 5ft 11",33 years of age and weigh 17 stone.I have cleaned up my diet for the last few weeks and it is as follows:
Breakfast porridge small teaspoon of golden syrup
    Snack pear
Lunch 4 cracottes and 2 slices of luncheon roll
    Snack pear
    Dinner chicken stir fry
Thats it really except for sunday when i have the usual traditional dinner.
I started 2 weeks ago to walk fast for 4km 4 times a week.Just last night was out and i can now manage to jog half of it.I have lost 6lb since i started and will defo keep going as i am very determined.I guess what i am looking for is ideas for the days i dont walk/jog.I'm not a member of a gym and will most likely not be joining one.I would like to get into some reasonable shape for the first time in my life. What changed my outlook was looking in the mirror and seeing my stomach covered in strech marks.I want to get rid of the moobs and stomach as this is where all my weight is,i know you cant spot reduce fat so its going to be a long haul.
Any advice and motivation would be great from all you guts in the know.
    Thanks a mil
    Red

Hey man, well done on your progress so far. What you sound like you want to do is incorporate some form of weights program in your diet. Personally I think you should join a gym, its what I did after I dropped a bit of weight. failing that have a look at Argos for a semi-decent weights bench.

Thanks for the encouragement there mrpinky. As far as the gym is concerned its not going to happen with family commitments.I have a fairly big shed about 12m X 6m so im thinking of making a chin up bar and a few other bits and bobs.

Good god man....you're not going to be able to keep that diet up for long. There really are very few calories in there. How are your hunger levels?

What is luncheon roll by the way? Is it that pretend meat stuff you see at the deli counter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,991 ✭✭✭metamorphosis

+1 with Khannie- that is not a sustainable diet for the rest of your life, which i am presuming you want to keep the weight off for?

Id start with a glance of the stickies here and in the nutrition sub forum. Id try to get as many whole foods into your diet where possible. By that i mean, eating foods that are ingredients rather than foods that do not have an endless list of ingredients or ingredients you cannot pronounce. Try to increase your protein intake - eggs with your oats maybe? Tinned fish like tuna, salmon etc. You can get them in things like a tomato sauce if yoiu do not like tha plain taste of tinned fish.

For lunch id ditch the croqettes and the luncheon roll - both are pretty mank nutrition wise.

You deffo deffo need to eat more.Snack on more fruit, things like oatckes, nuts and seeds, yogurt, cottage cheese etc.

Great for taking a move to change your health but you would be much better taking a diet that is both healthy, filling, and sustainable.

Congrats mate and keep up the good work.

Look up the home workouts and metcons threads here. They are both full of workouts you can do without having to go to the gym.

Thanks a million guys for all the advice. My hunger levels aint bad at all i thought it would be alot worse to be honest.I do like a bit of tinned salmon so will add that into the mix maybe get rid of the lunchoen roll and go for that instead. Will add some yogurt and some almond nuts in there too. Those metcons look great and the fact you can mix it up too means less boredom.Have been looking at some of transforms vids and i like the lookm of this stuff. What would be a decent begginers metcon?

depends on yer definition of beginner, everyone different. Pick one you like the look of and do it. Try again a couple days later and try to beat either your time or number of rounds from first effort.
For example, do a 15 mins block of 5 Pull Ups, 10 Push ups, 15 squats. Count the number of rounds and beat next time.
If not able for pull ups, maybe do 5 each side walking lunges instead. Loadsa ideas there in those threads and transforms videos. Dont over analyze it just pick one and get to it, or modify one if it doesnt suit you at the minute.

get some kettlebells. go to a class to learn good technique and routines. if you keep them up with th eogod diet the weight will drop off big time

you couldnt go far wrong from just doing all of the following in the vid below for the first 4-6 week 2-3 days per week.

All really managable for most and just make sure you stretch and foam roll lots.

Best of luck with it -

If you can find a pool that sets aside a time for swimming with lanes, or if you're free to swim at a time when the pool is quiet, I would thoroughly recommend swimming if you can.

If you can't, you could think about taking classes. Might be more enjoyable to exercise as well as learning a new skill.

    Also:
    1)Good cardiovascular exercise
2)Works a lot of muscles, granted not as much as weights but it's good for getting that (and I hate this word) toned look.
3)Less recovery time than weight training (I find this personally, maybe others are different) so you can do it more often/several days in a row, etc.

Fair play so far. The best bit comes in about a month or so when someone you haven't seen since before you started notices you've lost weight and says it.

Congrats on the weight loss so far!

Not much more I can add to most of the above bar emphasise reading the basics sticky here on the Fitness forum and in the Nutrition & Diet sub-forum.

You'll learn an awful lot from them and will probably be able to tweak your diet/exercise regime a little bit more to get better results.

Thanks again guys for all the advice.I will be starting transforms vid tommorrow as im on cardio today.Just a quick question:How many rounds should i do? or should i do as many as i can in a set time.Im Going to try and do:
    10 squats
    10 lunges
    10 sit ups
20-30 skips after each round if possible.
Also where is the best place to get kettlebells and what weight should i go for?
Did my cardio on sat and went 4km in 30 mins,is that any good?
    Thanks again guys!

just do 10 squats, 10 press ups, 30secs in plank position and then 30-50skips - rest if needed and repeat for 5 total rounds.

In next session so - 10 one arm rows, 10 hip bridges, 10 reverse ab curls and then 30-50 skips x 5 rounds

just keep it really really simple to begin with and get a 16kg kettlebell from http://www.buykettlebelldublin.com/

Finally what you ran your 4km does not matter - what you run it in a month DOES matter i.e. it should be quicker or you complete more distance in the same time. At your current weight i would not do any more than 1-2 days per week running and just get out for good long 45-60mins walking until you get the weight between 14-15stone.

    Stretch wayyy more
