Is there many following the Primal Blueprint by Mark Sissons?

I have been following it for the last 2 weeks and have noticed major changes in every aspect of my life and in the last 4 weeks I have lost 13lbs. Mostly accelerated in the last two weeks.

Its more a lifestyle change and I haven't had to make a huge cross over which is great which means it is easily kept up unlike most of the diets people follow

I've read that book and think it has some pretty decent advice.

Fair play to you on the weight loss:)

Ive been low carb for the past 5 weeks (prob about 80% anyway) and ive went from 13st 4lb to 12st 2lb. Im working my way through the book at the minute and enjoying it.

Starting back to GAA tomorrow night and worried about performing on a low carb diet though!

Overall i would agree with Red Cortina - alot of pretty good and effective advice.

    I'm primal! :)

I will be looking into it. I'm (almost) zero carbs from starchy sources (20g oats for breakfast with some berries and nuts/seeds) for about 4 months now and have just received the Primal Blueprint book, but have not started into it yet.

I follow a primal lifestyle (well, about 80% of the time). Haven't read the book but I regularly read Mark Sisson's blog

    Mark's Daily Apple

That dude is in great shape for any age, not to mind a 57 year old!
Did you read his latest post http://www.marksdailyapple.com/a-week-in-the-life-of-mark-sisson/?
He seems to get through a fair bit of wine throughout the week:D

I eat a quite relaxed primal diet & I've just started to try the fitness side. Not doing it for weight loss, just for general health & energy levels. Oh and money-saving since I cook pretty much everything I eat from scratch :)

Yeah I'm about halfway through the book but had been reading his site for a good while now. Like others I follow it about 80% of the time, still have porridge for breakfast sometimes, and the odd slice of toast.
I find i function way better when i'm eating 'primally' as well and I was doing crossfit there for a couple of months and combining both regimes made a big difference to me, sleeping better, more energy, generally happier...which was strange cause i'm usually miserable :-)

I'm prima/paleo too. My 20% is white rice, sweetcorn and dairy.

Does anyone else think Mark Sisson's cals look really low for a guy that active? Maybe he has massive portions I dunno, it's also much lower in carbs than would have though, I mean confessing to having a potato like its a big mac, geez, can't stand people hating on potatoes. Cut 'em out if your trying to lose weight fair enough but I though paleo had moved on from the carb-demonising, I know I have.:)

I nearly feel that I wouldn't describe myself as paleo anymore. When I think of 'Paleo', what comes to mind is Cordain's book which recommends lean meats etc whereas my diet doesn't look like this any more.
Even calling myself 'Primal' is a stretch. When I see Mark Sisson's food diary where he tucks into a 'big ass' salad, I don't think that is where my food is at either.
Can you call yourself a GF, CF WAPF? Or a PaNu?

I don't think Mark demonises potatoes, he had a blog post a while back about them. Basically he said if you can handle them every once in a while go for it, but not too much.

Still too cagey for me, like 'well if you must..' Potatoes are awesome!

I do really think that people of Irish decent are well suited to potato consumption, but that's just a justification for eating loads of baked potatoes with sour cream pet theory I have.:)

Yeah I reckon his portions must be huge because he looks a healthy weight in his photos, which are kind of cringeworthy in a 'I'm-old-but-still-a-cool-daddyo' kind of way, but I do have a lot of time for Mark (and maybe that was a bit of an ageist comment!).

I wonder have potatoes been cutivated to be starchier over the years, like the way say tomatoes are purported to have been cultivated to be sweeter? (and isn't this the reason the nightshades are forbidden if you're going down the strict-paleo route?)

As for the wine, I was a bit shocked too, although can't see it doing too much harm, I think it was mainly red he was drinking right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭Red Cortina

Red or white, either way I think that if I were to get to his age and end up in such terrific shape then I would be having a few glasses of wine a few times a week!

Also thought that it was gas to see him enjoying a sugar in his coffee too! But again if you are 57 and in good shape then what about it!

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 5,620 ✭✭✭El_Dangeroso

I loled at the sugar thing too, BOS would love that! :D

Potatoes have been bred to have less and less toxins (gycoalkaloids), I'd say they are probably the least toxic of all tubers.

Am I the only one who doesn't think his wine intake is excessive?:o
