My local Peugeot dealer told me it is expected in April. This was back in December so I'm it may have changed.

Decent looking car, and if the reviews are correct, then it's a welcome return to form for Peugeot. I hope it does well.

Do you have a link to the reviews please?

Yeah but all the ones brought into Ireland will be boggo-spec 110bhp 1.6ds. The 200bhp diesel will be rare as hens teeth and salesproof. Probably...

Hopefully it'll be a return to form for the Lion. I was a big fan of Pugs until the arrival of the 307, 407, 207...basically all the ugly and temperamental ones. I still wanna know what drugs lead the designer to think that this looked good.

I'd imagine that GDL will bring in some 2.0HDI 160bhp as found in the RCZ and the Citroen C5 Exclusive.

Not sure when it's coming here or what spec will be available but the uk site has a build area where you can run through the specs available, seems to be only 1 diesel engine...

You're inviting a barrage of motoring questions upon yourself by revealing your identity Paddy!

I've been in the 3008 and I thought it was quite nice. Good to see the brand coming along.

Ha, that's no problem. That's why CompleteCar.ie is there. Anyone can write in and ask questions for free. The Peugeot brand has really improved massively of late. Their quality is really impressive now.

Have you driven it yet Paddy?

Autocar were making big play of the fact that Peugeot chose to retain hydraulic power steering for the car and that it is a welcome return to the Peugeots of old, who used to make great drivers cars.

Certainly I've noticed how there is a lot of praise for how the 3008 and 5008 drive (and of course the RCZ) - they're meant to be much more like how a Pug should drive than most Pugs over the past 10 years.

The Pugs of the last ten years made me cry they were so awful. Their only redeeming features were the diesels but the grinning pudding styling and the poor driving characteristics shamed this previously great marque.

Peugeot seem to be shamelesly copying VAG interiors these days:

    2011-Peugeot-Peugeot-508-8d590.jpg

    passat_interior.jpg

The steering wheel and dashboard are also identical to the Superb's:

There are petrol models in other markets but Ireland isn't taking them. 1.6 (150hp) turbo.

Great handling car, in 2.2 hdi its quick enough too. The 2.0hdi manual is nice, I loved the looks of the SW (estate) it's a really handsome car I made a video so I'll put that up tomorrow.
Paddy's review is bang on, there's too many buttons everywhere.

I can't see a single similiarity between the passat and the 508 pic, unless you mean the seats in which case there are tens of cars with similar designs.

All the 508 and the superb share is a chromed U. That's it.

    Straws and reaching for?

Just look at the design of the sill top of the door trim, it's bloody identical.

This isn't the first VAG interior Peugeot have copied:

    2010+peugeot+3008.interior.jpg

    audi-r8-interior-2-lg.jpg

You'd expect better from a brand with so much history (404, 504, 505 etc.) than this.

It's completely different. I can find one similarity between the two. I tried circling every difference, but it ended up farcical as all you could see were circles on circles on circles.

    Let's look at the doors:
Door handles in different positions, different windows, different mirrors in different positions, speaker in different positions, handle in different positions(does the VAG have one?), the pocket is different shape and size. The one vague similarity is that they're both two tone with a sweeping line leading down, but my 10 year old car has the same design - so it's not something only VAG do.

I could continue and write on essay on the differences, because they literally have almost nothing in common.

And don't get me started on the 'indentical' ones you linked above :pac:

I'm getting Mazda / Opel mashup from the side profile estate shot.

What's the seating position like? Still too high, or have they sorted that out?

The seats in the press one were electric with loads of movement, fine for the steering wheel but a bit high for the manual box if you know what I mean. Much better than the 407 though

Which of the two chassis set ups is better, or did the press only get to drive the GT spec models with their more sophisticated suspension?

I wonder what the boggo versions are like, it seems clear that the high spec 'GT' chassis is a great drive, but what about the lesser versions, which have MacPherson struts at the front instead of double wishbones fitted to the top line models?

We took the GT one for a spin in the hills, its very flat through the corners with no wallow, the steering is sharp but the gearbox was set up for fuel saving so it was a bit slow on the kick down.
Peugeot, who are into the suspension stuff say the MacPherson is just as good. It was a little more bouncy in the SW version and you'll tell the difference in the corners but not bad all the same. BTW I reckon a 2.2GT Auto here will be over the 40k mark so special order methinks

Nice interior in that spec alright, wonder how mid range cars will look though in velour, without that screen and all the buttons? Not sure about the styling either, but they had to try something new, look forward to seeing it in the flesh. Still, looks like a big step forward for Pug.

It's interesting that the 1.6 Allure Saloon is more expensive than the 1.6 Allure SW.

Peugeot are traditionally the most conservative of French manufacturers, I don't see anything wrong with them taking inspiration from VAG for interiors. It's the only thing they do well!

Great review Bodhan, really informative. I don't know if i agree that the 2.0 is the one we'll buy. Surely the Paddy-spec special will be the 1.6 and the 2.0d will be a bit of a rare beast (and a better bargain s/h than new)?

Good to see Peugeot back on form, I really liked the 405 growing up. It was class-leader in it's day - beat the pants off contemporary Sierra/Passat/Vectra...

Peugeot has grown up lots, the interior is great. There's only 500 euro between the 1.6 112bhp Active and the 2.0 140bhp Active with a 6 speed box. It would make more sense to go for the 2.0

Wow! How does emissions/MPG differ between the two? you'd need to be a right Scrooge to go for the 1.6. But people will! They'll drop 30k on a new motor and obsess over a slightly higher tax band and marginally better fuel consumption.
