Hi, I had to go to my GP, the other day.I dont go to him that ofton as he can be a bit odd in my opinion.Anyway I came into the room, and he asked how he can help me.I told him , very shyly that I needed the morning after pill.
He turned around and told me, "it was well for me getting some".:o
He said his wife had been ill, and he wasnt getting any .
I just felt so uncomfortable, you have no idea.
I didnt know what to do.I just wanted to run out the door.Is this normal behaviour.I know sometimes when I have gone before he would look up my condition or whatever on google. He ever refered me to a site a mayo clinic .OK, refering me , but getting info from it himself was strange.
So I just want to put it out there , is this ...well normal .

It sounds like you simply don't like your GP. You find his behaviour off-putting and would prefer if he was entirely clinical. On the other hand, a different person might find that they prefer a GP who attempts to make a joke to set them at ease, or just has some informal conversation. It's a personal preference. If you're not comfortable with your GP, change GPs.

I think they where way out of line.Maybe your best friend would talk like that , but Id agree with OP, way to much personal informaion given there and saying well for you, well thats just mad.If you can change your GP, as you wont feel comfortable with them now.

That sounds ridiculous, and unprofessional. I wouldn't be able to take medical advice from anyone who talked to me like that.
I think it's time to find a new GP, even if it's harder for you to get to him/her.

Thanks for the replies.Like I said it was an emergancy as such.I only go to him if I have to. I dont know if its cause Im me.He tells me that he has another client with the same name and how horrible she is.What I find really off putting is his stories about is wife. How shes going through a hard time cause she doesnt have many friends where she lives, that was when I went in for a B12 injection. He also told me, she has the same problem, and something wrong with her heart.I just felt so belittled, he was vulger, getting some!!After 3 kids and 17 years together, the cheek of him.Anyway, thanks for the imput ,I think a new doctor is on the cards for me.

Wow he sounds extremely unprofessional! I think he is also breaking patient confidentiality by speaking to you about another patient.

If I was you I would get a new gp.
