Less Kennedyesque, more Healy-Raesque I'd say

Healy-Raesque is probably a more accurate description, and I must say, a whole lot scarier!

The really scary thing is that the BIFFOs will probably elect him!!

Shame on the BIFFOs if they do!

Was talking to someone from Offaly yesterday who said Barry Cowen wasn't well liked within the FF party locally.

The word was that he is more for himself than for FF.

There is a chance of an Ind.FF candidate if headoffice insists on a single candidate (Barry). Could split the local organisation.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 PMOOB

That would be Sean Fleming I suppose

One thing that the BIFFOs have in common with us in Cavan is a deploreable choice of candidate. Given what is in front of us to date I am considering not voting for the first time in my life!

Father Ted'esque, now that is probably a brilliant description.

Sure why would they worry in Offaly, lets vote him in and we'll all get planning permission to build on that bit of land over there. Sure aren't all the pot holes in our local roads being fixed up grand. Why would we worry about the rest of the country we can all go down together, only we'll just have better roads, and maybe he be officiate at a lovely girls competition...

Do I sound p1ssed off there!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There has to be an end to this "inbred" form of politics in ALL counties and constituencies! We are being made a laughing stock all over the rest of the world!!!!

    Should Offaly be granted independence?

tough decisions taken in the national interest. blah blah.

I have the misfortune to be resident in this hole of a constituency. Not one FF candidate darkened the door during the locals, and I can't imagine I'll see any of them during this election. Which is a pity, as I have the dog trained very well

Could it mean that, as his workload is probably nil as an auctioneer and valuer, it will in no way impinge upon his career in politics?

Laois/Offaly - Guaranteed 3FF, 1FG and 1 Sin fein seat in the next Dail.
The Cowen machine will kick into action and you can bet your bottom dollar on 3FF seats

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,859 ✭✭✭bmaxi

Does anybody in Offaly work or are they all of independent means? If it's the former then a quick glance at this month's pay cheque should be reason enough never to have a Cowen or a FF T.D. in the Dáil again. Quite apart from the fact his brother will probably spend his retirement pissing your hard earned taxes down the drain.

when the dust has settled and people can see the real situation and what the opposing Laois/Offaly candidates have to offer. FF will retain 3 seats and between 25% and 30% nationwide. the FF election machine will leave all others in envy.

Has it occurred to you that the opposing Laois/Offaly candidates and indeed those countrywide, might have more to offer if FF hadn't spent the last fourteen years squandering it? The FF election machine will do what the FF government has done, peddle lies, but I agree with you they are better than anybody else at doing that.

Does anyone remember an RTE documentary on Barry Cowen's secretly(?) recorded remarks towards travellers in Co. Offally from a few years back? I believe it was aired on Prime Time, Brian Cowen was Finance minister at the time.

I've tried to come up with a link but haven't had any positive results, I seem to recall him making some pretty controversial remarks however.

If you do not have the ability to get elected you do not have the ability to govern.
FF have the know how and that is why the are the dominant party constantly. election promises can easly be forgotten once two parties go into power, as it can be claimed the programe for goverment between the patries is the way to go forward.

FF have shown that the ability to get elected does not equate with the ability to govern and we've already established what FF's know how is based on.

you have to have the ability to win elections in order to be in a position to govern. FF have that ability, no other party can come near their rcoord, ok maybe during the odd blue moon FF are in opposition but I am unable to remember a full Dail term in which they remained in opposition. WHY?

I am certain that FF will retain 3 seats in Laois / Offaly.
Labour, F.G. and Sin Fein will keep knocking one another during the campaign and once again the door will be left open for FF to make a late surge and gain enough seats to be a part of the next Goverment and do not rule out a Labour/FF Goverment

    wake up to reality
Laois / Offaly are the strongest FF supporters in the country and especially now that their backs are to the wall you can expect to see the full force of the FF election machine manage votes and retain the three seats.

His convention? Who'd go to that? A bunch of 'self serving dyed in the wool, politics is a civil war competition' kind of people. I don't know what standards of intelligence traitors hold but an entire Offaly sized convention full of traitors being 'blown away' by him is not what I recognise as praise. My 4 yr old niece often expounds the brilliance of her dolly, likewise I don't give her opinion much credence

EDIT: Godtabh beat me to it, and far more succinctly

His looks shouldn't matter a jot. His allegence should.

If you stand for FF, you stand for failure, and at this stage having not left the party while they were crashing the country, you also stand against Ireland.
