As it says post a list of your favourite Vids/DVDs or whatever they're called for a good olde Blokes night in....

(ps, thanks to the "Heat" thread for the idea)

    edit...list of food & booze required optional...:p

Here's 5 for a start but knock ureself out with whatever many you feel like-give a couple of reasons if you can:

    1. Goodfellas (well, blood, guts and Joe Pesci)
    2. Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure (Nostalgia )
    3. Unforgiven (well, it's got it all for a western)
    4. Life of Brian (who can quote the most lines, most accurately, after all that beer)
    5. Rambo 2 (for the laugh...)

    White Men Can't Jump.
    How High.
    Zoolander.
Highlander. The first one. Not the bad second one, or the really confusing third one.
    The Losers.

Food to include Buffalo Wings (See the mega thread in the cooking section), Shoestring Onions, Wedges.
    Beverages to include alcohol.

Any of the following Stewart Lee DVD's

    * Stand Up Comedian
    * 90s Comedian
    * 41st Best Stand Up Ever
    * Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle
    * If You Prefer A Milder Comedian Please Ask For One

    Serve with beer & kebabs.

Comedy that hurts your brain, and food that soothes your stomach ... the beer is just a bonus, really.

I watched the wrestling Royal Rumble last night with friends, pizza and beer last night. I tell ya, nothing more manly than that.

Hmm, for movies you can't really beat the likes of Comando or Showdown In Little Tokyo. Over the top action, bad acting and action galore! The Expendables is a recent addition to the rubbish but insanely fun cheesey action movie genre.

    Who won?

    Who won?
Alberto Del Rio. It was a big surprised and I'm delighted that they are giving somebody new a push.

I must admit, we all marked out in support of King Sheamus!

    Interesting,never even heard of him.Anyway,mad OT,carry on!

I should ad Road House to the list. It's a favourite among my buddies and the girls among them seem to enjoy it too!

And then there is the unintentional comedy masterpiece that is the Wicker Man remake:

Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2 are excellent guy flicks.Alot of John Woo's pre Hollywood stuff are outstanding particularly Hard Boiled,The Killer,A Better Tomorrow or Bullet In The Head.

Of course any Bruce Lee films should form part of the list,Enter The Dragon being an obvious highlight. All the films in his all too short career deserve a viewing.

    Any of the Die Hards

You got to have star wars IV to VI in there.

Reservoir Dogs would be good, just the car chase scene in Bullit (Rest was poor)

Heat, Ronin, Top Gun, Rocky and Rock II also Rocky Bilbao, Predator Terminator, T2.

Maybe have a Sci Fi Weekend followed by a cops and robbers weekend and followed by a war weekend.

Finally followed by a black and white weekend, Cagney, Stewart, Mitchum,

Sherlock Holmes films with Basil Rathbone.

Why has no one mentioned "The Sound of Music" yet? I can't believe a bunch of blokes wouldn't love that film.

Anyway, as soon as the kids are gone to school I'm breaking out the "Rome" boxset.

Alot of people arent into horror flicks so I tried to recommend more accessible stuff!I am however having a movie night with a friend tonight so I intend subjecting her to it.:)

I'm gonna go all foreign and arty and mention three Kurosawa films-

    The Seven Samurai
    Yojimbo
    Sanjuro

So good, they remade them in the States as The Magnificent Seven and A Fistfull of Dollars. But you cant beat Toshiro Mifune in the originals.

Watched "Bronson" yesterday...definitely a Blokes film...would be amazed if any woman on the planet has actually managed to sit through it.

Decent extra feature too about body-building

If it's a box set then it has to be Band of Brothers. If I had to choose episodes I'd go for Curahee, Day of Days, Bastonge, Breaking Point and Points.

    That's close to 4 hours.

If its films then both Airplanes sandwiched by Roadhouse.

Big Lebowski but only if my brothers don't go or they at least promise not to say every line.

Gotta agree with previous poster. True Romance is QT's best film even though he didn't direct. Best scene ever with Walken and Hopper.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

The "problem" with The Big Lebowski is that alot of people dont get it.Its one of those marmite films that people love or hate.I think its super however I have shown it to some friends before and they were non plussed with it.

What about 'The devils advocate'. The final scene is just great, I never saw it coming and the doors song (I think it's the doors anyway but am open to correction!) that accompanies it is just brilliant touch. Al Pacinos the bomb :D

Pity they absolutely ruined the ending compared to the book.

    Ronin
Band Of Brothers Blue Ray Box Set
    Saving Private Ryan
    St. Trinians ;)
    Rambo / Rocky
The Departed (you can watch it in peace without herself asking annoying questions)
    Where Eagles Dare
    The Hang over

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,144 ✭✭✭✭Cicero

    A dirty evening:

Dirty Rotten Scondrels (Steve Martin & Michael Caine)

    The Dirty Dozen

    Dirty Harry

For food...Chinese, Tiger Beer followed by Mud Pie:p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 264 ✭✭Velocitee

    Bloodsport
Anything with Stephen Seagal (Under Siege had it all, explosions/ women jumping out of cakes...)
    Any of the Die Hards

(Death Race/ transporter etc. all good - don't go transporter 3 though - the whole crane sequence made me cringe - that and the Lamborghini out of sync with the flappy paddle gear changes - hey if you aim a movie at blokes, some petrolheads are going to notice!):P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,235 ✭✭✭Odaise Gaelach

Die Hard quadrilogy and a pizza... if nothing else, you'll have endless chat about whether Die Hard 4 was crap or not.
    I liked it.

Actually, alternatively you could go for something that you know is going to be really bad, and then you could all start tearing it to shreds á la Mystery Science Theatre. That's always fantastic fun. :D
