Think of a real or fictional character and 9/10 this can guess who it is you're thinking of by asking you a series of questions.

Yes, I know it's a database built up over time by people's answers etc, but it's still impressive.

It guessed Steve Bruce (Sunderland Manager), Niall Quinn (Sunderland Chairman) and Darren Bent (Sunderland Footballer) for me.

I chose the character Jonathan Harker in the Bram Stoker novel Dracula.

Didn't get it.

Bahaha asks me if my character is Irish, which he is (Jim Sheridan) and then comes out with a guess of the German director Paul Verhoeven, not the brightest genie in the world...

Program is a load of crap, didn't get Sheridan either.

Hmmm...

Instead of Mary Bennett it came up with Elizabeth Bennett (which impressed me!). Then carried on and came up with Lady Godiva...

It's since gotten Captain Jack Harkness, Rincewind and Avatar Aang, and failed to identify Roland Browning (having guessed two characters from Skins, it then went for Will from Inbetweeners, in fairness, wasn't far off)

Last night a friend of mine was telling me about playing with this program. His brother is playing rugby for one of the provinces here. He's not a full first team player yet, but he is fully professional and started a few Magner's League games for them. So my friend, the brother of the rugby player, spend ages with the Akinator program making the database think that if an Irish person was looking for a top class rugby player from Ireland associated with a province or even the national team it would put him out first. I think it still gives out Brian O'Driscoll some of the time, but the rest of the time it gives his brother.

Just tried it there, and it works. Bloody genius my friend is.

I spent a few hours on this the other day, the only person it didn't get was Kit Ramsay, Eddie Murphy's character from Bowfinger.

And I was trying to think of strange people to make it difficult, it even got Tom Hank's character from "Big", after I answered that he was under 15!

Some of them are hilarious, I was thinking of god, and the first question was "is your character real", I answered "I don't know", so the second question was "Is your character famous for having created the world?"

I've seen this ages ago and it's fantastic. It got a character from a fantasy novel that I wouldn't have imagined it would be able to. That was enough to impress me, but now I'm gonna be on it for ages again trying different people :P
