at least they died in action rather than been broken for parts or just crushed for the sake of selling new cars

I hope no one died in any of those pics above ... in a new car you'd be better protected, still at least i'd go out in a blaze of glory and style :)

There used to be a scrap or parts dealer near the Red Cow roundabout, it was on the right going out of Dublin across from the Red Cow hotel. I could have sworn that back in 2006 or so I saw a partly burnt out SL Pagoda in there, not sure if it was Irish reg or not. I only drove past and got a glimpse, the next time I passed it was gone. Anyone know more about this?

I go to that place whenever I need to get parts. Their one of the few places that let you in and take out the parts yourself.

    They had this last year:

Yeah you're right - I saw that there too around that time. Sad end for a car like that.

That was a Silver Pagoda, its was restored !! As far as I know it was a electrical fire engine bay and spread into Dash etc.

Last time I saw it I think it was in a garage in Glasnevin for sale. One thing for sure it lived on..

Sounds like it would have been a decent place for a poke around.

Old cars are really made out of rubbish compared to new ones, not to mention the complete lack of passive safety aids and sensible design.

If you even compare the amount of bracing and physical size of a 2011 Mondeo to a Corty.

I hope I never have a crash in a classic!

The Borgward actually performed well in that collision. If you look at all of the photos on the link you can see that the roof was cut off with those hydraulic jaws that firemen love using when called to accidents. The cabin space has not suffered any significant intrusion or deformation.

...The cabin space has not suffered any significant intrusion or deformation.

Except from the steering column, which has been thrust up and back, resulting in a steering wheel that is obviously deformed from striking the face or chest of the driver :(

Not sure about the Isabella, but before the 1960's most new cars' steering gear was in front of the engine, with a long straight column, which formed a 'spear' for the driver in all but the most minor crashes. Later cars had the steering assembly behind the engine on the bulkhead which improved things greatly.

It's still there, my mates Dad owns it...grand little place!

...Although, is it Kinsella's or the other Scrapyard that's literally beside it you're all talking about?

I always worry about the safety of classics compared to modern cars here's another example of why I worry driving older stuff.

A quick google shows that the case was postponed and has not gone ahead. Just as you said, Kenny Loggins.

Oh, I thought he got convicted (read an article ages ago where they said that he got convicted and has to pay the damage done). It seems that since last October nothing is happening.
