Increased weight but increased too much fat?

    Hey all,

So back story is I used to be 297 lbs, went on a calorie controlled diet and got down to about 210lbs. Started stronglifts and got down to roughly 196lbs but then my lifts all stalled because I wasnt eating enough!

So I was around the 196lbs on December 1st with about 19.5% body fat. Today I'm 208 lbs with 21.7% body fat, 6 foot 1 inches. Mind you I am only doing a tape measurement test so not sure how accurate!

I have intentionally been eating more, although the diet hasnt been the cleanest, probably around 70% clean.

    Lifts are

Squat 117.5kg, OH Press 47.5kg, Bench 65kg, Deadlift 130kg - all personal bests so far.

I know if you eat more calories some of it will be fat but what are peoples thoughts on the increase above? Personally my chest, back and arms feel bigger, stomach not so much although there is a bit of flab i want to get rid of. I think I am just conscious because for so long I concentrate don what the scales told me that I am freaking out a bit after putting on 12lbs! I should have taken photos but just forgot!

    Any input is appreciated

Could you by any chance give a fairly detailed account of what exactly you eat everyday, as that will help isolate the cause and help us treat the problem!
    Thanks

I'm not asking to critique my diet as I know over the 8 weeks my diet was only 70% clean.

I was only asking for people who have experience bulking etc, what is the general ratio of muscle to fat. By doing the maths it looks like i put on 7lbs of fat and 5lbs of muscle which isn't a good ratio in my opinion!

Most people probably end up around the 1:1 ratio and most would be happy enough with that. When i'm bulking i aim for a 2.5:1 ratio. So for every 2.5 lbs of muscle i'd expect 1 lb of fat. As you admit your diet is probably only 70% clean so you already know why your ratio is in favor of fat. Just have a good look at your diet and work out your calories and how much above maintainence you wanna aim for. Keep it at that for a few weeks and you should see the ratio reverse.

With >21% body fat should you not keep cutting for a while longer before ya start to bulk up again? Doesn't sound too healthy.

Your lifts have stalled? Surely you could put another 2.5 kg on every few days and move up slowly.

Are you aiming for a particular weight? Are you aiming for particular lifting targets? Are you aiming to just look better?

I'm unsure of the question really. I'll assume you've an idea of weighing and measuring your food roughly considering you were on a calorie controlled diet before? How many calories are you eating now?

What are you goals, looks like you tryin to do everything at once

    Thanks for the replies.

    Goal is to get stronger.

I was using the cunningham equation to calculate calorie needs. On workout days I was aiming for 3,800 and no workout days 3000. Although I'll admit weekends were a bit all over the place.

Im going to be stricter with the diet now so I'll cut for the next 2 weeks and measure myself then to see if there is any difference.

You don't need to get bigger to get stronger, you could lose a lot of the weight you are carrying and increase lifts too.
3800 cals is a lot so its so surprise you put on fat
