    Hey,

I was just wondering what effect both a sauna and a steam room have and how long should be spend in them?

Is one of them better than the other or are they equally benefitial?

    Thanks

Well they heat you up causing your blood vessels to dilate helping blood flow to the extremities and improving your cardiovascular system.

As for the difference in the kind of heat both of them use, I've no idea if one is better than the other. Steam room is good for your lungs apparently. I bring a bottle of water in with me and stay in each for about 15 mins. I stayed in too long once (was chatting to someone in there) and hands started tingling and felt faint, not a good feeling.

I've spent time in both after training during last summer (3-4 days a week) and I'm convinced they've helped improve my body's ability to sweat. Don't think there's any scientific evidence to back this up, it's just my opinion. Of course this could just be a consequence dramatically improving my general fitness but I'm going to give the sauna and steamroom some credit.
