From what I've been reading Eggs seem like a simple, healthy food to include in your daily diet. But on the other hand I've heard that eating too many eggs can have adverse health implications.

Is eating say 3 eggs a day, 3 days a week bad for you?

Sorry, probably a very simple question, but I've had a quick look and I cant see anyone else having asked it.

    Thanks

    Not at all.

The very short of it is that eating eggs like that has been shown to lower bad cholestrol and increase good cholestrol.

    Eat away :)

Eggs are little nutritional powerhouses. Buy the omega 3 versions or organic if you can (the difference in price is usually pennies per egg)

One thing eggs are a great source for is choline, choline is special because it is very protective against fat accumulation around the liver, which often proceeds many chronic diseases.

I've eaten 5 today so far

Thanks guys. That's good to know. Eggs are a pretty tasty way of eating healthy. Quick to make, all that stuff.

Eggs for lunch now I think.

I think the idea is that eggs have a lot of cholesterol. The fact is that your body needs ~1400 mgs of cholesterol daily, only 700mg of which you can absorb from food, the deficit being made up by your liver.

Dietary cholesterol does not increase serum cholesterol levels.
    Here's a relevant study.

Just a query on the omega 3 version as im not 100% sure about them. Are the hens fed flaxseed? If so, considering the low conversion of O3 in the body from flax, would it really be worth getting the O3 eggs?

Hens have a better ability to convert short chain n3's into long chain ones than we do. You get 3-6 times the amount of omega 3 in those compared to other eggs. Good eatin'.

Nice one. The eggs I usually buy in Tesco are not far off the O3 eggs there price wise (bith 2e something or other), so il be buying the O3 ones from now on.

Ok, now I have a question in this forum that you might look at as it is kind of related to Eggs in a way.
Now I have just got my low cholesterol diet sheet from my doctor....On that it tells me i can eat ( Egg whites ) Regularly as in every day.that I have to Avoid Eating==Excess eggs.it tells me eat in moderation {occasionally@2-3times a week.}eat in moderation{special treats@1 or less a week}.This is all very confusing for me as I am in my mid forties, not overweight thought I/we used to eat healthy, have a young family and want to do the best for myself and my family food wise....

I'm wondering about this egg white issue as well. I keep reading about egg whites being "heart healthy" and lots of other stuff from media sources. The egg yolk can't be that bad for ya. A lot of very contradictory advice flying around.

I bought a carton of egg whites from the store the other day, it felt very wrong(eggs shouldn't come in a carton!) pouring it into whatever I was making. Don't think I'll buy it again. I don't like isolating the egg whites from the yolk in regular eggs, just feels wasteful.

The yolk (the yellow bit) contains the majority, if not all, of the vitamins. It also contains a fair bit of protein (the white bit has slightly more in comparison) and plenty of healthy good fats.

Eat whole eggs and eat plenty of them! :D

    Whole egg.

In realtion to healthy fats, O3 and good cholesterol.
It's actually only the yolk that does the good there. The whites are just protein, all the other benefits come from the yolk.
I was just pointing out the the benefits listed were came from the yolk, so obviously eat the whole egg.

imho, eating only the whites is a crime! why would ya throw away a perfectly good nutritious egg yolk - the nicest part!
