    Ordered it today with Amazon, pre order price is £202

    Got the Aqua model

    3DS-aqua-blue.png

    Role on March 25th!

    Also pre ordered Mario Kart 3DS but this might not be launched on release day, and unless MGS gets a worldwide launch release, I'm not sure what will be my first game for the console - SF4?

    My birthday is nice and close to the release date :D Think I am going to have to treat myself to it.
    So many good games coming out for it its going to cost me a fortune.

    I pre-ordered mine in Game on the 19th when details of the "price" came out (rip off!).
    Going to keep adding funds to the Game giftcard I have each week so I will have it paid off by the 25th March.

    Cant wait for it!
    I really want Paper Mario and OoT! But I guess I will just settle for Street Fighter or some other game untill then.

    I'd say there will be more pre-orders coming in after the Japan release next month and more people over here see it on youtube or something. Glad I have my pre-order in already, it will sell out in the first week with only 900,000 for Europe!

    Oredered an Aqua Blue one myself in Gamestop as I am trading up from a dsi and their trade deals are awesome.

    €135 for the 3ds when trading a dsi and 2 games, €199 with ds lite and €99 with dsi xl.

    The closest to that is HMV giving €96 trade on a dsi against a 3ds, which they sell fro €260, making it €164 after trade.

    I'm going to wait. The launch lineup isn't strong enough, and there are no 'killer apps'.
    They'll come in time, though.... probably 9 months after launch to coincide with a €50 price drop.

    I don't think I'll bother getting one until at least a while after it comes out. I sold my old chunky ds about a year ago to a friend, and I was thinking of picking up an old ds after the 3ds comes out, hoping the price drops a bit.

    I'll get one when the R4 team release a flash card cartridge for it! I believe there are some already in development? 50quid is way to high for handheld games, with new release XB360 and PS3 games selling for 45quid!

    Wake up Ninty!

    r4 team don't exist anymore.

    I'm pretty sure a "new" R4 type of group will pop up around the launch of the 3DS.
    If the price for games is way over priced like the 3DS is the next gen of "R4" cards will be out like a shot!

    I'm starting to not really want the 3DS now, may just leave it for a few months and see how it fairs over the summer first.

    Anyone else kinda gone off the 3DS since pre-ordering it?

    Wanted to pre-order this on Amazon but taking a look at the launch titles I'm not impressed.
    I wanted to get Starfox and Zelda to relive the 64 memories and wanted Mariokart just because it's a must. However it looks like none of these are launch titles now.

    Does anyone know a full list of confirmed launch titles?

    Amazon lowered the price again. 234 euro odd.

    Competition is great isn't it?
    I bet no Irish retailer has lowered its price from 270 yet.

    Official launch lineup:

    * Pilotwings Resort
    * Nintendogs + Cats: Golden Retriever
    * Nintendogs + Cats: French Bulldog
    * Nintendogs + Cats: Toy Poodle
    * Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition
    * The Sims 3
    * PES 2011 3D
    * LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
    * Ridge Racer 3D
    * Super Monkey Ball 3D
    * Samurai Warriors: Chronicles
    * Asphalt 3D
    * Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars
    * Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D
    * Rayman 3D

    Taken from here. Only 2 first party games is pretty bad (I'm counting the 3 nintendogs as 1). I stand by my original opinion... not strong enough for a preorder from me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,942 ✭✭✭stesaurus

    Yeah there's actually none of those games I'm interested in. I'll just have to wait and hope the price stays the same or comes down by the time the better games appear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,807 ✭✭✭speedboatchase

    I put down a pre-order on Monday in Xtravision (I get sent a lot of games so I'll be trading a few in from now till then rather than order online). I'm not fully convinced by the launch lineup but I never had a DSi, just the DS Lite, so in terms of the actual setup and downloadable features etc, this should be a huge step up. I'll either pick up SFIV or Pilotwings on the day but I'll wait for reviews first. Shout me down if you like but Nintendogs could be alright :o I've heard that the camera will recognise if someone else is using your DS and so your dog might be unfriendly towards them :D

    I was in two minds about this one, and I'm going to have to get one.
    The move to 3D is too big a jump not to make me want to be a part of the excitement!

    The games lineup is a little light I'll grant you.
    I expected a flagship Mario or Zelda in there but nothing...
    I will probably go for Pilotwings Resort and RidgeRacer.
    Pilotwings seems to have lost some of the "scale" of the 64 iteration, the environments always seemed massive and real, I especially enjoyed the hang-gliding down windy, icy crags and out over the ocean, now it all looks sanitised and neat.

    There really has to be more play areas than just Resort Island or it's going to get really boring.
    Again, the 64 version had so many secrets, tunnels and different things to be found.
    Lets hope some reviews are forthcoming soon.

    Pretty much hit the nail on the head on why I'm debating getting pilotwings, as opposed to getting it.

    ghost recon is supposed to be really good, and that's a choice too.

    Anybody have any idea how much it costs in Xtravision? Can't find the price online.

    I got to play it in Amsterdam at the conference last month and it's pretty amazing, it's just a pity the launch line up is so utterly crap.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,835 ✭✭✭✭cloud493

    I think it's €270 in xtravision. Plus HMV have that sweet DS trade in offer as well. Should only cost me €204 I think.

    I'd keep your DS if I was you! I am!

    Seconded, I'm keeping both my DS Lite and My DSi. I need them both for my Pokémon swapsies with myself, plus I need my Lite so I can play my GBA games :D

    Have been intending on getting a DS for a while now having never owned one. The 3DS will do!

    Why not just keep the DS Lite then?
    3DS will play DS games and you can swap your pokemon between them.
    If you have any DSiWare though, hold on to the DSi until late May, as that's when the DSiWare Transfer software will be coming for the 3DS.

    I read somewhere that 3DS to DS/i communication won't be available straight out of the box though, it'll be in a later firmware update, so I wouldn't be able to do that. Although my cousin lives up the road from me and he has a DS Lite that I could borrow for an hour here and there so I could trade in my DSi. I'll have to see what the "selected games" are on the list at GameStop though.

    You should be able to find two games on the list that you have and don't want as there are about 120 games on it. You must preorder the console to get the deal which for a DSI is €135 with 2 games. If you don't have 2 games HMV are selling a few on the list for €12 like Ivy The Kiwi and Womens Murder Club.

    Transfering the DSiWare is what will be lacking, every single feature except pictochat will be included in the 3DS for your DS games to use.
    If you didn't use the DSiShop to buy DSiWare games on your DSi, you needn't hold on to the DSi unless you really want to for personal reasons.

    I went ahead and ordered 3DS, aquablue, and Pilotwings.
    Have to get the new Edge to see what else is worth getting.
    Right now it's still either Super Monkey Ball or Ridge Racer.

    Nintendo, hurry up and release Zelda!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭TrustedApple

    Well guys if you are looking to save some money on your 3DS gamestop has maybe one game a weak where you get 50 euro to trade it and the you get 25% extra to trade it in on the 3DS so you will save your self a extra 17.50 if you get that game in HMV and trade in into gamestop

    You'll be able to try out the 3DS in the Ilac Centre from March 18th - 20th: http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/23722/news/nintendo-3ds-uk-tour-dates-confirmed-updated/

    Was using one earlier in HMV. They're a little smaller than the DSI and it uses a similar UI. I had no problem keeping it inside the sweet spot unless I purposefully moved my head or radically moved the console.

    They didn't have any games though so I was using the AR cards. I was playing the mini game that is on the ? card that you have to fight the dragon. ou do this by moving the 3ds around so that your target lines up with the crosshair on the centre of the screen. Also used the other cards, they don't really do much other than show a small Link or Pikmin running around on the surface in front of you.

    No I don't work there. They got an aqua blue unit off Nintendo for demonstration purposes, but you have to ask as there is no demo pod.

    I'll be in the states for launch so could pick one up if tempted as the hinge in my DSLite is gone and it flaps open, think I'd prefer the DSiXL though....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 776 ✭✭✭Jafin

    Don't forget the 3DS is region locked.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,482 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

    Won't be getting one then, DSiXL isn't region locked I presume so may take a forrage around the second-hand marker over there...

    It is region locked.

    DSi, DSiXL, 3DS are region locked.
    DS is region free.
    DSi enhanced games are region locked 99% of the time.
    DSi exclusive (3 games) are region locked.
    DSiWare is region locked. It's also console locked. Not sure if a US DSiWare can be transferred to an EU 3DS in May.

    Game are actually selling it for €260 which is why HMV dropped their price by €10. Pity HMV aren't giving Splinter Cell with it for free like on the website.

    does anybody else find the 3-5 hour battery life a little off putting . there will more than likely be a 3DS lite or something like that within a year . i cant decide whether to get the 3DS now or wait for a better model .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,614 ✭✭✭Nollog

    Why would it be off-putting?
    Bring the plug in your backpack if you're going somewhere on a trip (the only instance you'd need more than 5 hours battery life).

    The 3DS will have 1 or 2 new colours out in a year (likely just 1), not a re-design.
    DS was incredibly ugly, and they were able to shave feet off its size after 2 years.
    It then took 2 more years for the DSi, then a year later DSiXL.
    so maybe a re-design in 2 years, but not 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭iceferg

    yeah ,5 hours is more than enough for any gaming session ,id just like to get closer to 10 hours on 1 charge .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

    Still debating as to whether or not I should get this. Might give Game/Gamestop a ring later on and ask if there's to be any bundle offers for release date.

    The HMV bundle is pretty great, I don't know if it's beatable.
    You get the 3DS for 250.
    With that you can get another game (a ubisoft one or Monkeyball) for about a tenner.
    If you want one of the better launch titles you pay twenty.
    You also get a HMV voucher for 20 as well!
    I preordered it today, cancelling my Amazon order.
    I am now getting the console and Pilotwings for 270, and going to get Ridgeracer 3D as well, which will bring it to 310, less the 20 voucher, which makes it about 290 for the lot!
    Thats a good 30/40 less than I was looking at with Amazon, plus I can pick it up on launch day!
    Only 19 days to go now, come on time, hurry up...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,507 ✭✭✭nitromaster

    @CiDeRmAn
    Damn that's tempting...closest HMV is an hours drive away though.........could be worth it. :pac:

    Amazon dropped the price on me for the console alone to £196 with free shipping (that's obviously English Pounds and free shipping in the UK) so I paid for Expedited Shipping and it's still only going to cost me £205 and I get it the day of the launch since I live in England at the moment
