I'm looking to gain some muscle mass and generally tone up. I have a free membership in a gym in work but due to working hours it's not really convenient to use it. I consider myself fairly fit working in a bar I'm constantly moving for 8-14 hours at a time and i also play football mostly 2 times a week but sometime 4. 1 hour matches. i recently completed a 6 mile run in less than 45 mins without any other training. I also have a fast metabolism and even though i eat alot of food i don't gain weight or find it very hard been at 10 stone for almost 2 year . i have a generally good diet but do eat some "junk food". my question is basically if i want to get toned without using weights would i need to do other cardio workouts or change my diet or do you think i could achieve this without doing so. the last thing i want is to loose weight as i can't really afford to do so. also is there any recommendations of workouts that don't use weights?

Hi U_Fig, first question is why do you not want to use weights ?
Toning up is usually general public speak for loosing weight so since you said you don't want to lose weight I'll assume you want to build some muscle.
Weights are going to be your best bet for doing this, although bodyweight exercises would be a good start/instroduction.
Can you post your diet ?
Everyone says they eat a lot but when its actually written out it usually isn't that much. I know from experience in that I was about your weight, thought I ate like a horse but in fact was only hitting maintenance calories.
My reccomendation would be to post the diet and some of the more experienced members can offer advice on what to change.
If you want tone, you'll have to build muscle, i.e. more protein, fats, calories and a good routine.

To be completly honest you sound like someone who likes the idea of having more muscle but dont really wanna work to achieve it. Tis is constructive criticism. I cant understand why working in a bar you wouldnt have time to work in gym for an about 50 mins to an hour three times a week! (with right programme thats all ya need)...mentally ya gotta be in right place to change the way ya look!

I usual eat about 4 big meals per day not including snacks. Its not that I dont want to use weights its that I don't want the added expense of having to buy them or a gym membership at the moment have alot of bills on the way and can't really afford it. It's an option in the future to buy some but not really now The reason I don't use the gym Is because the times I can use it is early in the morning and I'm usually asleep or have other commitments. I only really get free from maybe 6 or 7 pm any day I'm off work which in my case is too late to use the membership I have. I will post a more detailed Dietary plan when I analysis it more Its not that I'm not motivated to do it in the past 3 years prior i was in college and had a good regime going between gym and Training sessions for the football and basketball teams but since I graduated And started working and started studying for my professional exams I just havnt had the time or money to do so. That's why I need something I can do at home.

you can make fantastic progress at home with little to no equipment so just get the basics going and start digging in to good food

    Toned means look decent, right?

Usually on this forum people will recommend changing your diet to remove any excess bodyfat, or recommend building some muscle to give some shape or definition. At 10 stone, you're probably a skinny enough chap, so your only option is to put on some muscle, unless you're going for the emaciated look.

Sure you can look into push-ups, pull ups, dips, sit ups etc but without any investment in something you're gonna be quite limited!

Just on the work thing. Is your gym at work?

I do what most people cover in 3 days but I do it over 5 days on my lunch break in work.

ya pretty much I look ok I'm happy with the way I look I want a little more muscle definition.. I just want something to start me going i've never really done much muscle building work in the gym it was all cardio and agility training for football. i did a little strength training but not much. ya i can see how i might be limited without weights but as long as i can get a start without them i can make investments in the future

cheers and doing multiple sets of chins with 30kg hanging off you means you dont even have to do biceps curls - most people could do chin ups from home even to begin with
