    Nah, it's a surprise. *Gasp*

It should be here in 2 weeks.

I will reveal that it's baby blue, made in the USA, bought from a shop in Texas and that the price was really too good to ignore!

Even with tax added, depending on how all that goes, it should work out nice and cheap!

If anyone can guess what it is they'll win a lollipop.

If the price is good and may change, care to let us in?

Baby blue, gonna guess Fender Strat or Tele but I know SFA about guitars really. Have a beautiful Godin myself.

It's no Fender but I don't really want to give too much away because it will probably become too obvious otherwise!

Don't worry though, I'll probably just cave and share the pics in a few days time!

I actually bought it on ebay, where I normally get guitars. The price was already really low but the seller had a 10% off sale this week and I decided to pounce.

I'm actually kind of tempted to order another guitar by the same manufacturer but I think I'll let myself calm down a little before I decide!

Apparently I gave too much away! I never realised you could find so much out on ebay with so little information.

    Anyway, I'm so excited.

Sorry for ruining the surprise, but the excitement of waiting for its arrival should keep you going. Seriously its a gorgeous guitar and I'm not normally a fan of baby blue! Keep us posted on how it plays when it arrives

Thanks, guys. It's called Himalaya Blue.

That along with Fever Yellow and Spanish Copper are my favourite new G&L colours. Their butterscotch blonde is also a thing of beauty.

Oh the excitement. If all goes well, there may be more G&Ls some day in my future! :pac:

Me likey. What kind of trem setup is that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,635 CMod ✭✭✭✭Ravelleman

It the G&L 'dual fulcrum vibrato', basically Fender's 1980 something re-imagining of the Strat trem. One of the main differences is that it can be set up to float, unlike the traditional Strat bridge.

The other difference is that they call it a vibrato rather than a tremolo, which is actually an incorrect name :p

So it arrived yesterday. Luckily I had the money to pay the tax and duties on it, otherwise it would have been sent off to Ballymount for me to collect.

    The first impressions are excellent.

After struggling to open the case for about half an hour, I joke not, I worked out that the latches are opened by pushing the locks to the side. As I finally opened the case my nostrils were filled with the delicious candy like smell of case glue. Mmmm.

The first thing I noticed was the neck. The maple of the fretboard has a large spot of grain on the 4th and 5th frets. I hadn't seen this in the photos. As I continued looking I noticed that this grain continues down to the back of the neck where there's some chaotic flame-ish type grain and a single bird's eye going on. It's definitely not the most attractive neck I've seen, in fact some people wouldn't like it at all, but it adds some character to the guitar. I reckon it looks a lot nicer than some fairly bland Fender necks I've seen over the years.

The neck finish is satin. I really thought about getting gun oil tint but in the end I decided to go for something new, as recently I've been finding tinted maple necks a bit too plasticy for my tastes. I had a Robert Cray signature Strat a few years ago but ended up selling it because of this.

The satin finish is actually really nice. It almost feels untreated. The neck is a mid sized C shape. It fits my hand very nicely. The abalone fret markers are a nice touch. They're nice and discreet.

The grand total for a custom ordered Himalayan blue USA G&L Legacy with a G&G tolex hardcase, including tax, is €833.26.

Add that to the NOS Gretsch Anniversary I got for €850 with a Gretsch hardcase, tax included, in 2008 and I think we can all agree that I've done pretty well for myself.

The moral of the story is that if you're willing to deal with a little extra hassle and spend more time looking around for guitars, it actually pays to buy from the US rather than Europe, where prices are hilariously over inflated.

I can also get to sleep at night knowing that I helped our public finances.

I'll take some pictures tonight and continue my write-up. Don't have time to finish it now!

    Answer is above the pictures.

I'll give an overview of the sounds later. I haven't had much time to play it plugged in yet. Unplugged it's glorious. The most resonant Strat I can remember playing.

Well worth a little indulging! Congrats it is a thing of great beauty. Never really was gone on blue for guitar colour before, but that really has won me over.
    Enjoy.

    Enjoy.

Its a really nice colour - pretty similar to the vintage Fender Sonic Blue? or maybe Daphne Blue?
Anyway I think those vintage Fender car paint colours are all pretty much the business. Transparent finishes and quilted tops are so last year
