Is it worth paying 25 quid just to get a list of coeliac friendly places to eat? i think not. should that information not be available to all people?

Dunno, if it's worth €25 or not, but that little book is invaluable to my sis whose daughter is coeliac. She carries it with her the whole time.
It's surprising how foods change from year to year.

I do agree with you tho, that it should be made available to everyone.

Yes, the book should be made available to everybody, but the government doesn't fund it, the Society is a charitable organisation set up to provide support to coeliacs and the family's of coeliacs and as such needs to cover costs. A lot of effort is put into compiling the list - contacting manufacturers etc. to confirm the gluten free status of food items.
They also arrange regional meetings, information days and promote awareness of the condition and of research in the field.

(I don't work for the Coeliac society by the way, I just feel it's worth pointing out the reasons for membership charges etc.).

Im a member of the Coeliac Society and the €25 annual fee is worth it imo. The book as previously stated is invaluable in keeping up-to-date with product changes as more and more companies and products are being upgraded from 'suitable for coeliacs' to 'gluten-free'. Also the newsletter they send out is great for keeping up to date with the latest Irish developments in terms of improvements in restaurants and food outlets. The newsletter also provides info for the local meetings of the society if you want to learn more and to mingle with those who also have the disease (I hate calling it that!!)
