Our national anthem is great. What would you prefer Ireland's Call?

    Seriously?

    Oh, now I get it. It's a bad joke.

There are people who genuinely want a new anthem though.

Why not? It's a load of sh1te and we could have a say on it.

I bet you think you're a funny f**ker; dont you.

Our Government is sh!te. Yes, we all know it. We dont need one hundred and one different threads pointing this out. Get over it.

Ireland's Call is alright for school kids to sing at international rugby matches but it's worthy of no more. As for Amhran na bhFiann, aside from what it's about, the tune is the third best anthem around (after Italy and France).

See this article and in particular reference #23. I personally haven't an objection to singing "We are Soldiers of Destiny", it means precious little to me. It would be much worse if the first lines of the anthem stipulated the creed or race of those deemed worthy of singing it.

    My two cents:
    "Sinne fookin brokened"

I'd suggest we approach the UK, tell them this whole republic thing was just a joke that got a bit out of hand and sorry for the trouble etc.

This would be on the proviso that we agree to a mutually acceptable anthem which crow-bars in a Fcuk reference.

How about this with the title/lyrics tinkered with...

Kind of hilarious how angry many people are at the suggestion of a change.
Where did the over the top loyalty to a sh1t song come from? Is it a GAA thing?

But it's really not a **** song, it's actually quite good and I'm as unnationalist as they come in saying that. Musically, it definitely does the job.

We dont need a new anthem, I love our anthem but the words should be officially changed to Sinne Laochra Fail.

It's not the worst tune I've ever heard but the lyrics are lolbad.
    Time for something new imo.

You do know that line is not in reference to the political party. What are they teaching in schools these days. That anthem was originally in English and read "Soldiers are we, whose lives are pledged to Ireland" Where is that shambles of a political party mentioned in that?

I'd be happy if we could steal the Italian one, but other than that I can't see someone coming up with something that we can be proud of and enjoy singing. Or pretending to sing.

...na na na na na na na, Seo libh canaig amhrán na bhFiann. Ahhhh. *Fog horns*

Sinne fianna fail translates to "soldiers are we"..so the phrase was just highjacked to use for a political party.

I dont think we need a new one..I love the one we have :)

    Party in the R.O.I

I hopped off the plane at Shannon
with a dream and my cardigan
welcome to the land of FAIL excess, (woah)
    am I gonna fit in?

    Jumped in the cab,
Here I am for the first time
Look to my right and I see Sligo Ainé
    This is all so crazy
    Everybody seems so pasty

My tummys turnin and I'm feelin kinda home sick
Too much pressure and I'm nervous,
That's when the taxi man turned on the radio
and a Jedward song was on
and the Jedward song was on
and the Jedward song was on

A song about the relationship between the ROI and the Catholic church and the history of persecution and abuse of kids?

Yeah, I just don't think we could make a catchy tune out of it.

Although I can imagine the headlines around the world about 80,000 Irish people in Croke Park singing about priests abusing kids. That'll quickly get rid of any lingering reputation of us all beings drunks.

Our national anthem is one of only a few I've ever heard that has a nice melody.
Most are a meandering aimless mess.

"Jackies Army" can be interchanged with the name of whatever fool is running the country at that particular time.

The national anthem is fine just remove the reference to Fianna Fail, Swastikas were used for thousands of years before Hitler rose to power, however use one today in Germany and you will find yourself in alot of trouble. The Fianna Fail political party even though not the original meaning in the Anthem should be removed as those two words are a national embarrassment.

    We'll sing a song, a soldier's song,
    With cheering rousing chorus,
As round our blazing fires we throng,
    The starry heavens o'er us;

    Impatient for the coming fight,
And as we wait the morning's light,
Here in the silence of the night,
    We'll chant a soldier's song.

    Soldiers are we
    whose lives are pledged to Ireland;
    Some have come
from a land beyond the wave.
    Sworn to be free,
No more our ancient sire land
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
tonight we man the gap of danger
In Erin's cause, come woe or weal
'Mid cannons' roar and rifles peal,
    We'll chant a soldier's song.

In valley green, on towering crag,
    Our fathers fought before us,
And conquered 'neath the same old flag
    That's proudly floating o'er us.
We're children of a fighting race,
That never yet has known disgrace,
And as we march, the foe to face,
    We'll chant a soldier's song.

    The long watched day is breaking;
    The serried ranks of Inisfail
    Shall set the Tyrant quaking.
    Our camp fires now are burning low;
See in the east a silv'ry glow,
Out yonder waits the Saxon foe,
    So chant a soldier's song.

OP, why do you think we should change the anthem, it actually has nothing to do with the Fianna Fail party

I agree. The whole country needs to start playing a new tune.

Besides, was our anthem not swiped to a great extent from "pomp and circumstance", the anthem about the glorification of British military pageantry?

Amhrán na bhFiain is a great song! I love belting it out.
Takes a decent voice to sing it properly. ;)
